Role of Aspartic and Polyaspartic Acid on the Synthesis and Hydrolysis of Brushite

open access: yesJournal of Functional Biomaterials, 2019
Dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD) is one of the mineral phases indicated as possible precursors of biological apatites and it is widely employed in the preparation of calcium phosphate bone cements.

Regioselective and Anisotropic Multi‐Patching of Small Microparticles via a Polymer Brush‐Assisted Microcontact Printing (µCP)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A method to fabricate anisotropic SiO2 patchy microspheres is presented using a modified microcontact printing technique. This involves a PDMS elastomer stamp with grooved surface topography, creating a confined environment for the microspheres.

Detection and Quantitation of Gluten in Fermented-Hydrolyzed Foods by Antibody-Based Methods: Challenges, Progress, and a Potential Path Forward

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2019
Celiac disease (CD) affects ~1 in 141 individuals in the United States, requiring adherence to a strict gluten-free diet. The Codex Standard and the European Commission states that gluten level of gluten-free foods must not exceed 20 ppm.

A Homeostatic Photonic Device Integrating Vapor‐Regulated Thermo‐Optical Feedback Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An inorganic homeostatic photonic device is designed to autonomously regulate light, temperature, and vapor sorption through integrated positive and negative feedback mechanisms at multiple wavelengths. The device uses a graded mesoporous 1D photonic crystal coupled with a photothermal layer.

Characterization of Causative Allergens for Wheat-Dependent Exercise-Induced Anaphylaxis Sensitized with Hydrolyzed Wheat Proteins in Facial Soap

open access: yesAllergology International, 2013
Background: : In Japan, hydrolyzed wheat proteins (HWP) have been reported to cause wheat-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis (WDEIA) by transcutaneous sensitization using HWP-containing soap. Patients develop allergic reactions not only with soap use,

Preparation of antioxidant peptides from oat globulin

open access: yesCyTA - Journal of Food, 2020
In order to isolate antioxidant peptides from oats globulin hydrolyzed alcalase, an antioxidant peptide was isolated and purified using ultra-filtration and ion-exchange chromatography. Hydroxyl and 1,1-diphenyl-2-pycrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging

Characterization of urea hydrolysis in fresh human urine and inhibition by chemical addition

open access: yes, 2018
Urea hydrolysis is a chemical reaction that occurs in soils, the human body, and in wastewater urine diversion systems. The reaction, which transforms the urea in urine into ammonia and bicarbonate, results in ammonia volatilization and mineral scaling ...

Structured, Shaped, or Printed Single‐Atom Catalysts and Their Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper reviews the design and use of structured single‐atom catalysts, which integrate porous architectures with the exceptional reactivity of isolated catalytic sites. It explores fabrication strategies, advanced characterization methods, and support materials that enhance thermal stability, mechanical robustness, and operational efficiency of ...

The action of rennin on B-casein : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Chemistry at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
A study was made of the action of the enzyme rennin on β-casein. Hydrolysis of β-casein initially at a single sensitive bond under controlled conditions of temperature, pH and relative enzyme and substrate concentrations, formed the basis of the ...

Hemicellulose hydrolysis catalysed by solid acids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Depolymerising hemicellulose into platform sugar molecules is a key step in developing the concept of an integrated biorefinery. This reaction is traditionally catalysed by either enzymes or homogeneous mineral acids.
