A MILP-Based Approach for Hydrothermal Scheduling
2013This paper presents new solution approaches capable of finding optimal solutions for the Hydrothermal Scheduling Problem (HSP) in power generation planning. The problem has been proven to be NP-hard and no exact methods have been able to tackle it, for problem sizes of practical relevance. We explore three approaches.

GENCO's Risk-Constrained Hydrothermal Scheduling
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2008This paper presents a stochastic midterm risk-constrained hydrothermal scheduling algorithm in a generation company (GENCO). The objective of a GENCO is to maximize payoffs and minimize financial risks when scheduling its midterm generation of thermal, cascaded hydro, and pumped-storage units. The proposed schedule will be used by the GENCO for bidding

Group Search Optimization for Short Term Hydrothermal Scheduling
2017 International Conference on Information Technology (ICIT), 2017This paper presents group search optimization to determine the optimal hourly schedule of power generation in a hydrothermal system. The algorithm is tested on three hydrothermal multi-reservoir cascaded hydroelectric test systems having prohibited operating zones and thermal units with valve point loading.

Hydrothermal Optimisation by Refinement of Step-Loading Schedules
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1977Abstract A method is presented for the daily scheduling of hydrothermal power systems. Initially, hydro plant is committed by a step-loading schedule. Subsequently optimal load flow computations to schedule thermal generation and VAr allocation alternate with a gradient or Newton search to improve the hydro schedule.

Genetic algorithm based hydrothermal generation scheduling
2015 International Conference on Recent Developments in Control, Automation and Power Engineering (RDCAPE), 2015In large electrical power generation systems the integrated operation of hydro and thermal power stations is considered to be more economical as compared to thermal power generation. Integrated operation results in optimum utilization of all energy sources in the most economical manner, to provide an uninterrupted supply to the consumers.

An algorithm for solving the dual problem of hydrothermal scheduling
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1998Lagrangian relaxation has been widely used for the hydrothermal scheduling of power systems. The idea is to use Lagrangian multipliers to relax system-wide demand and reserve requirements, and decompose the problem into unit-wise subproblems that are much easier to solve.

Short-term environmental/economic hydrothermal scheduling
Electric Power Systems Research, 2014Abstract This paper proposes a new technique based on lexicographic optimization and ɛ-constraint method to solve the combined economic emission scheduling problem of hydrothermal systems comprising several equality constraints as well as non-equality ones. The hydrothermal scheduling problem is modeled as a multi-objective problem with two objective

Comparison of Decomposition and Coordination Methods in Hydrothermal Optimal Scheduling
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1987Abstract Tnis paper presents two different decomposition and coordination methods in hydrothermal optimal scheduling. The one divides the initial problem into n single thermal plant and m single hydro plant subproblems, the other — T single-period sub-problems.

Optimization-based sale transactions and hydrothermal scheduling
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1996Selling and purchasing power are important activities for electric utilities because of potential savings. When a selling utility presents an offer including prices, power levels and durations, a purchasing utility selects power levels and durations within the offered range subject to relevant constraints.

Evolutionary optimisation method for multistorage hydrothermal scheduling
IEE Proceedings - Generation, Transmission and Distribution, 2002An evolutionary method is proposed for minimising the operational cost in the scheduling of hydrothermal systems with multiple storage. The method combines the advantages of constructive dynamic programming and evolutionary programming. Instead of evolving the primal variables such as water releases and thermal generator outputs, it evolves the ...
