This paper presents a novel formulation for integrated bidding and hydrothermal scheduling, where the market clearing price (MCP) is modeled as a Markov chain and the risks are directly formulated in the objective function in terms of MCP variances. The self-scheduling requirements and interactions between the energy and reserve markets are considered.

Fast Evolutionary Progranuning Techniques for Short-Term Hydrothermal Scheduling
IEEE Power Engineering Review, 2002Fast evolutionary programming techniques are applied for the solution of a short-term hydrothermal scheduling problem. Evolutionary programming (EP)-based algorithms with Gaussian and other mutation techniques have been developed and tested on a multi-reservoir cascaded hydroelectric system having prohibited operating zones and a thermal unit with ...

Optimal scheduling of hydrothermal power generation in wholesale market environment
2010 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference Europe (ISGT Europe), 2010Generation scheduling is an important component of power systems operation in a market environment. Electricity demand in different areas depends on local marginal prices in the wholesale market. The paper presents a model for mid-term optimization of electricity generation in the hydrothermal power systems.

Optimum Scheduling of Hydrothermal Systems - A Generalized Approach
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1963A gradient method for finding the optimum allocation of load to the energy resources of a hydrothermal system, suitable for use with digital computers, is presented. The operating restrictions are treated simultaneously with the optimization procedure by the use of slack variables. Transmission losses are taken into account.

Cuckoo Search Algorithm for Hydrothermal Scheduling Problem
2016This chapter proposes a Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) and a Modified Cuckoo Search Algorithm (MCSA) for solving short-term hydrothermal scheduling (ST-HTS) problem. The CSA method is a new meta-heuristic algorithm inspired from the obligate brood parasitism of some cuckoo species by laying their eggs in the nests of other host birds of other species ...

Improved Flower Pollination Algorithm for Short Term Hydrothermal Scheduling
2015This paper presents improved flower pollination algorithm (IFPA) for solution of short term hydrothermal scheduling problem. Flower pollination algorithm (FPA) is a new meta-heuristic search algorithm inspired by the pollination process of flowers. The FPA performs efficiently due to its effective control of global and local search mechanisms which ...
