Time to Burn? Characteristics of Hydroxocobalamin Administration in an Academic Medical Center
Journal of pharmacy and practice, 2022Background/Objective: Hydroxocobalamin is indicated for cyanide poisoning and its package insert states it should be given “without delay”. We sought to evaluate time to administration and clinical characteristics when hydroxocobalamin was administered ...

Role of Hydroxocobalamin in Acute Cyanide Poisoning
Annals of Pharmacotherapy, 2008Objective: To review the recently approved cyanide antidote, hydroxocobalamin, and describe its role in therapy. Data Sources: Relevant publications were identified through a systematic search of PubMed using the MeSH terms and key words hydroxocobalamin and cyanide. This search was then limited to human studies published since 2000.

Why hydroxocobalamin is photocatalytically active?
Chemical Physics Letters, 2012Abstract Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) has been applied to investigate the relevant excited states involved in the photodissociation of hydroxocobalamin (HOCbl). The TD-DFT/BP86/6-31G(d) and TD-DFT/BP86/6-311G(d,p)//BP86-631G(d) calculations suggest that the photoscission of Co–OH bond is mediated by the repulsive 1(n + dCo → σ∗Co–

Pharmacokinetics of Hydroxocobalamin in Smoke Inhalation Victims
Journal of Toxicology: Clinical Toxicology, 1996Hydroxocobalamin has been proposed as a cyanide antidote. Little is known, however, about its pharmacokinetics in human cyanide poisoning. We prospectively studied the pharmacokinetics of hydroxocobalamin in 11 smoke inhalation victims of whom all but one had objective evidence of cyanide exposure.

HYDROXOCOBALAMIN VERSUS CYANOCOBALAMIN IN THE TREATMENT OF TOBACCO AMBLYOPIA
The Lancet, 1967Abstract Patients with tobacco amblyopia were treated with cyanocobalamin or hydroxocobalamin. Improvements in visual acuity and colour vision were notably greater in the hydroxocobalamintreated group. In patients who continue to smoke vision does not fully recover on treatment with cyanocobalamin but may do with hydroxocobalamin.
