Synthetic Modifications of Estrogens and Androgens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Estrogens the female sex hormones have numerous biological actions. Estradiol is the most abundant estrogen in women before menopause. It influences the development, maturation and function of the female reproductive tract.

Derivatisation for separation and detection of estrogens by ion mobility-mass spectrometry

open access: yes, 2021
Estrogens are sex steroids with both protective or adverse roles in health and disease. For example, in pulmonary arterial hypertension, some estrogen metabolites are pro-angiogenic while others are anti-angiogenic.

Regulation of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor and the signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 by long-term estrogen exposure in breast carcinoma cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The risk of developing breast cancer is known to be associated with a woman\u27s lifetime exposure to estrogens, both endogenous and exogenous. Increased exposure to estrogens stimulates cellular proliferation, which is a widely accepted theory of ...

Quantifying estrogen metabolism: an evaluation of the reproducibility and validity of enzyme immunoassays for 2-hydroxyestrone and 16alpha-hydroxyestrone in urine.

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 1997
Rapid and simple enzyme immunoassays (EIAs) were recently developed to measure 2-hydroxyestrone and 16alpha-hydroxyestrone in unextracted urine. The balance between these competing estrogen metabolism pathways may serve as a biomarker of breast cancer risk.

Syntheses of 15α-Hydroxyestrone and 15α-Hydroxyestradiol

open access: yesChemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 1975
The titled compounds (1, 2) have been prepared from estrone by the new synthetic routes. Introduction of a hydroxyl group into the 15α-position was readily attained by hydroboration of the 14, 15-or 15, 16-double bond with diborane and subsequent oxidation of the organoborane with alkaline hydrogen peroxide.
