Hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA Reductase

1980
The reaction catalyzed by 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase [hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase (NADPH), EC 1.1.1.34] involves reductive deacylation of HMG-CoA to mevalonate and requires two moles of NADPH (Fig. 1).

Saprophytic production of Clavine alkaloids and activity of Hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase

Folia Microbiologica, 1986
In submerged Claviceps cultures the activity of hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase preceded the increase of alkaloid production and of sterol content. During the first alkaloid phase, cell mevalonate was involved in the biosynthesis of both alkaloids and steroids.

Tissue selectivity of hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme a (HMG CoA) reductase inhibitors

Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1993
Hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG CoA) reductase inhibitors are a class of lipid-lowering medications, with a major activity on plasma cholesterol levels, now enjoying a vast popularity among physicians and patients. These drugs, affecting a very early and key step of sterol biosynthesis, differ to a large extent in their physicochemical properties,

Effect of Hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA Reductase Inhibitors on the Functional Properties of Erythrocyte Membranes

Experimental and Molecular Pathology, 1993
We studied 56 patients affected by primary hypercholesterolemia treated with placebo for 1 month and with simvastatin (20 mg/day) or pravastatin (20 mg/day) for 6 months during a double-blind clinical trial. At 1-month intervals we determined the following parameters in the serum: total and HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoprotein A-1 and B ...

Purification and properties of two native, high-molecular-weight hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase phosphatases

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1983
Abstract Using MgATP-inactivated rat liver microsomal hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase (reductase, EC 1.1.1.34) as substrate, we detected reductase phosphatase activity in liver tissue of several vertebrates. Rodent liver reductase phosphatase is primarily cytosolic but may have some affinity for membranes.

Hydroxymethylglutaryl coA reductase (NADPH) in the latex of Hevea brasiliensis

Phytochemistry, 1982
Abstract The activity of hydroxymethylglutaryl CoA reductase (NADPH) (EC 1.1.1.34) was studied in the latex of regularly tapped mature trees of Hevea brasiliensis . The reductase activity was found mainly (95% of the total activity) in the pellet fraction (40 000 g ) of the centrifuged latex.

Adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase: hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase kinase.

Methods in enzymology, 1991
Hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA (HMG-CoA) reductase kinase has been previously assayed by its ability to inactivate HMG-CoA reductase in crude rat liver microsomes, using a radioisotopic assay for HMG-CoA reductase. However, this assay is insensitive and time consuming and it uses expensive radioisotopes and is subject to interference by HMG-CoA lyase and ...
