Developing hydroxypropyl methylcellulose/hydroxypropyl starch blends for use as capsule materials
Carbohydrate Polymers, 2013Blends of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) with up to 70% hydroxypropyl starch (HPS) were developed for use as hard capsule materials. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used as both a plasticizer and a compatibilizer in the blends. In order to prepare hard capsules for pharmaceutical application using the well-established method of dipping stainless ...

Thermal and rheological properties of methylcellulose (MC) and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) hydrogels with chitosan (CHI) were investigated to verify the potential application of these blends as structured systems for oil transport (emulgel, oleogels, and bigels). FTIR confirmed hydrophobic interactions of cellulosic polymers with chitosan.

Mechanism of Misoprostol Stabilization in Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose
1991The stability of misoprostol oil is significantly improved in a hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) dispersion (1:100). In order to understand the enhanced stability of misoprostol oil in HPMC, the physical state of misoprostol oil in HPMC films was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and ...

Studies on the Interaction Between Water and (Hydroxypropyl)Methylcellulose
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1997The moisture sorption and desorption profiles of four different viscosity grades of (hydroxypropyl)methylcellulose (HPMC) 2208 (HPMC K100, HPMC K4M, HPMC K15M, and HPMC K100M) of different particle size fractions were analyzed according to the Young and Nelson equations.

Physical State of Misoprostol in Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose Films
Pharmaceutical Research, 1990Scanning electron (SEM) and light microscopy (LM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) techniques were utilized to determine the miscibility of misoprostol and HPMC in the films with a misoprostol content from 0 to 29%, prepared using ethanol and methylene chloride/methanol (MeCl2/methanol, 50:50 ...

Studies of Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose Donut-Shaped Tablets
Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 1999Simple uncoated compressed tablets with a central hole (donut shape) or multihole tablets were prepared. Theophylline and diltiazem hydrochloride were used as model drugs to investigate in vitro drug release from donut-shaped tablets. The effects of hole size, the number of holes, drug solubility, and stirring rate on release kinetics were investigated.

Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose Sponges for the Adsorption of Estrogenic Pollutant
ChemPlusChem, 2017AbstractHydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) E4M chains are crosslinked with citric acid and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), resulting in adsorbent sponges (SpE4M), which are impregnated with magnetic nanoparticles (SpE4M‐mag) for the adsorption of 17 α‐ethinyl estradiol (EE).

Electrospinning of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose trimellitate solutions
Science China Chemistry, 2010Nonwoven fiber mats of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose trimellitate (HPMCT) with potential applications in controlled delivery of drugs and scaffolds for tissue cultures have been successfully fabricated by electrospinning of HPMCT solutions. The formation and diameters of HPMCT fibers fabricated by electrospinning were strongly influenced by the ...

Polymer Engineering & Science
AbstractMany polymeric film formulas containing antibiotics failed in preventing microbial infections due to microbial resistance. One of the main reasons for microbial resistance is the formation of biofilm layers which prevent the drug from reaching the active site.

Rheological and gel properties of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose/hydroxypropyl starch blends
Colloid and Polymer Science, 2014This work focuses on the study of rheological and gel properties of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)/hydroxypropyl starch (HPS) blends. It was found that both rheological properties in solution and gel behaviors in hydrogel of the blends depended on polymer/solvent concentration, HPMC/HPS ratio, and temperature.
