Hyperbolic geometrical optics: Hyperbolic glass
We study the geometrical optics generated by a refractive index of the form n(x,y)=1∕y (y>0), where y is the coordinate of the vertical axis in an orthogonal reference frame in R2. We thus obtain what we call “hyperbolic geometrical optics” since the ray trajectories are geodesics in the Poincaré-Lobachevsky half-plane H2. Then we prove that the

Measure-Expansive Homoclinic Classes for C1 Generic Flows
In this paper, we prove that for a generically C1 vector field X of a compact smooth manifold M, if a homoclinic class H(γ,X) which contains a hyperbolic closed orbit γ is measure expansive for X then H(γ,X) is hyperbolic.

Asymptotic orbital shadowing property for diffeomorphisms
Let M be a closed smooth Riemannian manifold and let f : M → M be a diffeomorphism. We show that if f has the C1 robustly asymptotic orbital shadowing property then it is an Anosov diffeomorphism. Moreover, for a C1 generic diffeomorphism f, if f has the

Quantitative Cross-Cultural Similarities and Differences in Social Discounting for Gains and Losses
Social discounting is when resource allocation decreases as social distance increases. Studies fitting different quantitative models to social discounting data have shown that a q-exponential function based on Tsallis' statistics best fits loss data ...

The Cosine Hyperbolic and Sine Hyperbolic Rules for Dual Hyperbolic Spherical Trigonometry [PDF]
The dual hyperbolic unit sphere \(H_{0}^{2}\) is the set of all dual time-like units vectors in the dual Lorentzian space \(D_{1}^{3}\) with signature (+,+,-). In this paper, we give the cosine hyperbolic and sine hyperbolic-rules for a dual dual hyperbolic spherical triangle \(\tilde{A}\tilde{B}\tilde{C}\) which its sides are great-circle-arcs.

Nanophotonics shines light on hyperbolic metamaterials
Hyperbolic metamaterials with a unique hyperbolic dispersion relation allow propagating waves with infinitely large wavevectors and a high density of states. Researchers from Korea and Singapore provide a comprehensive review of hyperbolic metamaterials,

Obesity and Hyperbolic Discounting: An Experimental Analysis
Models of rational addiction suggest that obesity is consistent with time-consistent preferences. Behavioral economists maintain that addictions such as alcoholism, smoking and over-eating represent examples of present-bias in decision making that is ...
