Continuity of solutions of a quasilinear hyperbolic equation with hysteresis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
summary:This paper is devoted to the investigation of quasilinear hyperbolic equations of first order with convex and nonconvex hysteresis operator. It is shown that in the nonconvex case the equation, whose nonlinearity is caused by the hysteresis term,

A composite hyperbolic equation for plate extension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A fourth-order inhomogeneous hyperbolic equation modeling the symmetric motion of a thin elastic plate subject to shear stresses prescribed along its faces is derived. The shortened forms of this equation govern the quasi-front, i.e.

Conditional Symmetries and Riemann Invariants for Hyperbolic Systems of PDEs

open access: yes, 2007
This paper contains an analysis of rank-k solutions in terms of Riemann invariants, obtained from interrelations between two concepts, that of the symmetry reduction method and of the generalized method of characteristics for first order quasilinear ...

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Stabilisation and destabilisation of nonlinear differential equations by noise

open access: yes, 2008
This paper considers the stabilisation and destabilisa- tion by a Brownian noise perturbation which preserves the equilibrium of the ordinary dierential equation x0(t) = f(x(t)).

A uniqueness result for the continuity equation in two dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We characterize the autonomous, divergence-free vector fields $b$ on the plane such that the Cauchy problem for the continuity equation $\partial_t u + div(bu) = 0$ admits a unique bounded solution (in the weak sense) for every bounded initial datum; the

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Riemann Invariants and Rank-k Solutions of Hyperbolic Systems

open access: yes, 2006
In this paper we employ a "direct method" in order to obtain rank-k solutions of any hyperbolic system of first order quasilinear differential equations in many dimensions.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
