In the paper we consider the well-posed characteristic problem for the general hyperbolic differential equation of the third order with nonmultiple characteristics. The solution of this problem is constructed in an explicit form. The illustrative example

A survey on well-balanced and asymptotic preserving schemes for hyperbolic models for chemotaxis
Chemotaxis is a biological phenomenon widely studied these last years, at the biological level but also at the mathematical level. Various models have been proposed, from microscopic to macroscopic scales.

Cauchy problem for a linear hyperbolic equation of the second order
The definition of hyperbolic equation by a prescribed vector field is introduced for linear differential equation of the second order. The Cauchy problem with prescribed boundary conditions is considered for such equations.

On some exact solutions of heavenly equations in four dimensions
Some new classes of exact solutions (so-called functionally invariant solutions) of the elliptic and hyperbolic complex Monge–Ampère equations and of the second heavenly equation are found. Besides, non-invariance of the found classes of solutions of the

Hyperbolic Equations with Unknown Coefficients [PDF]
We study the solvability of nonlinear inverse problems of determining the low order coefficients in the second order hyperbolic equation. The overdetermination condition is specified as an integral condition with final data. Existence and uniqueness theorems for regular solutions are proved (i.e., for solutions having all weak derivatives in the sense ...

This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

In this paper we study the boundary value problem for a degenerating third order equation of hyperbolic type in a mixed domain. The equation under consideration in the positive part of the domain coincides with the Hallaire equation, which is a ...
