Efficient algorithms for calculating the probability distribution of the sum of hypergeometric-distributed random variables

open access: yesMethodsX, 2021
In probability theory and statistics, the probability distribution of the sum of two or more independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) random variables is the convolution of their individual distributions.

An approach to negative hypergeometric distribution by generating function for special numbers and polynomials

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Mathematics, 2019
The aim of this paper is to not only provide a definition of a new family of special numbers and polynomials of higher-order with their generating functions, but also to investigate their fundamental properties in the spirit of probabilistic ...

Solution of Differential Equations with Polynomial Coefficients with the Aid of an Analytic Continuation of Laplace Transform

open access: yesMathematics, 2016
In a series of papers, we discussed the solution of Laplace’s differential equation (DE) by using fractional calculus, operational calculus in the framework of distribution theory, and Laplace transform.

Slash-Weighted Lindley Distribution: Properties, Inference, and Applications

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
The slash-weighted Lindley model is introduced due to the need to obtain a model with more kurtosis than the weighted Lindley distribution. Several expressions for the pdf of this model are given.

Applications of Generalized Hypergeometric Distribution on Comprehensive Families of Analytic Functions

open access: yesMathematics
A sequence of n trials from a finite population with no replacement is described by the hypergeometric distribution as the number of successes. Calculating the likelihood that factory-produced items would be defective is one of the most popular uses of ...

Properties and Applications of Extended Hypergeometric Functions

open access: yesIngeniería y Ciencia, 2014
In this article, we study several properties of extended Gauss hypergeometric and extended confluent hypergeometric functions. We derive several integrals, inequalities and establish relationship between these and other special functions.

A Note on the New Extended Beta Function with Its Application

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics, 2021
The purpose of this research is to provide a systematic review of a new type of extended beta function and hypergeometric function using a confluent hypergeometric function, as well as to examine various belongings and formulas of the new type of ...

An Error Analysis for Polynomial Optimization over the Simplex Based on the Multivariate Hypergeometric Distribution [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Optimization, 2014
We study the minimization of fixed-degree polynomials over the simplex. This problem is well-known to be NP-hard, as it contains the maximum stable set problem in graph theory as a special case.

Extended Matrix Variate Hypergeometric Functions and Matrix Variate Distributions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2015
Hypergeometric functions of matrix arguments occur frequently in multivariate statistical analysis. In this paper, we define and study extended forms of Gauss and confluent hypergeometric functions of matrix arguments and show that they occur naturally ...

Generalized Hypergeometric Distributions

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 1956
Summary An examination is made of the conditions under which the hypergeometric series provides discrete frequency distributions; eight sets of conditions exist. Urn model representations, other derivations and special forms are discussed. The limiting forms are positive and negative binomials and the Poisson distribution.
