Spontaneous Rupture of the Patellar and Contralateral Quadriceps Tendons Associated with Secondary Hyperparathyroidism in a Patient Receiving Long-term Dialysis

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2006
Although spontaneous rupture of the extensor tendon of the knee is more likely to occur in uremic patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism, simultaneous ruptures of bilateral knee extensor tendons is a rarely reported condition.

Reversibility of experimental secondary hyperparathyroidism

open access: yesKidney International, 1997
Chronic uremia is associated with secondary hyperparathyroidism (HPT). The purpose of the present investigation was to study the reversibility of secondary HPT after reversal of uremia by an isogenic kidney transplantation in the rat. Secondary HPT was induced in two models: Model A comprised 5/6 nephrectomized rats kept on a standard diet (N = 12; PTH

Characterization of serum phosphate levels over time with intravenous ferric carboxymaltose versus placebo as treatment for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction and iron deficiency: An exploratory prospective substudy from HEART‐FID

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Changes in serum phosphate levels over time with ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) in a randomized, double‐blind, prospective substudy of HEART‐FID assessing the following outcomes: serum phosphate, 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D, 25‐hydroxyvitamin D levels and plasma levels of intact parathyroid hormone during 6 months subsequent to FCM infusion.

Long Secondary Periods in Pulsating Red Giants: A Century of Investigation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Red giants are unstable to radial pulsation. About a third of them also show a long secondary period, 5 to 10 times the pulsation period. The long secondary periods were recently ascribed to eclipses of the red giant by a low-mass dust-enshrouded companion. Long secondary periods have been known for over a century.

Prognosis and Phenotypes of Advanced Head and Neck Carcinoma Associated With Hypercalcemia

open access: yesHead &Neck, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Hypercalcemia is the most common metabolic disorder in cancer, affecting 10%–20% of patients with advanced malignancies, including squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (HNSCC), though its prognostic significance remains poorly studied.

Instant Intraoperative Histopathological Assessment of Fresh Parathyroid Tissue: Higher Harmonic Generation Microscopy as a Potential Alternative to Frozen Section

open access: yesHead &Neck, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Hypoparathyroidism is a complication associated with significant morbidity and results from inadvertent removal of the parathyroid during thyroid surgery. Therefore, intra‐operative identification of parathyroid tissue is essential to minimize the risk of hypoparathyroidism.
