Energetic microdomains and the vascular control of neuronal and muscle excitability: Toward a unified model

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend The capillary–mitochondria–ion channel (CMIC) axis scales structural resources to match functional workload. (Left) In settings of restricted energetic capacity (e.g. cortical neurons), sparse capillary networks and modest mitochondrial pools set a lower energetic ceiling, sufficient to support phasic, low‐workload excitability. Noise‐induced reduction and early recovery of superior paraolivary nucleus sound‐offset responses

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Acoustic over‐exposure transiently disrupts auditory temporal processing in mouse superior paraolivary nucleus neurons. In control conditions, neurons exhibit robust sound‐offset (OFF) responses, which are abolished immediately following noise trauma, indicating impaired temporal encoding.

Solvents effects in SABRE-based nuclear spin hyperpolarization

open access: yes
Introduction One of the most promising signal enhancement techniques with respect to future biomedical applications is parahydrogen-based nuclear spin hyperpolarization.[1] In particular, the method Signal Amplification by Reversible Exchange (SABRE ...

Stac2 genetic deletion alters mouse chromaffin cells’ CaV channel composition, increases membrane excitability and reduces vesicle exocytosis

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Stac2 adaptor protein is expressed in neurons and endocrine cells. Using a global Stac2 knockout mouse model here we investigated the role of endogenous Stac2 in adrenal gland mouse chromaffin cell (MCC) excitability and catecholamine vesicle exocytosis.

Intercalated disk structure, tissue heterogeneity and ion channel distribution modulate conduction and local calcium influx

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend A, three‐dimensional representation of cardiac intercalated disk, reduced to a 100‐partition, computationally efficient network representation. B, ion dynamics within intercalated disk extracellular cleft space. C, rapid pacing leads to localized conduction block in tissue with regions of perturbed intercalated disk (ID ...
