Response of Soil Fungal Communities to the Alpine Steppe Degradation Gradient

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, Volume 37, Issue 14, Page 10308-10323, 30 August 2026.
ABSTRACT The degradation of alpine steppe on the Qinghai‐Tibet Plateau has become a critical ecological security issue. Soil fungi, as core regulators of grassland ecosystem functioning, play a pivotal role in mediating the feedback between degradation and soil ecological processes.

Microbiological Mechanisms of Sand‐Mixed Soil Improvement in Continuously Cropped Soil

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, Volume 37, Issue 13, Page 9390-9405, 15 August 2026.
ABSTRACT Sand‐mix soil is a widely adopted method for soil improvement in agricultural production. However, beyond the evident enhancement of physical structure, the mechanisms by which sand‐mix soil promotes crop root growth by influencing soil physicochemical properties and microbial communities remain insufficiently understood.

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 15, 5 August 2026.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

Secondary Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis Complicated by Mucormycosis Following Liver Transplantation for Cryptogenic Acute Liver Failure: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT HLH must be suspected in liver transplant patients who exhibit fever, cytopenia, hyperferritinemia, and dysfunction of the graft. HLH‐2004 guidelines and H‐score assessment early on will aid in early diagnosis and management, although prognosis remains poor when there are opportunistic infections.

Deep Mutational Scanning for the Study and Engineering of Protein Assemblies

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, Volume 6, Issue 8, August 2026.
This review explores how deep mutational scanning (DMS) can be used to improve understanding and accelerate engineering of protein assemblies, from natural fibers to engineered nanocages. We discuss various types of protein assemblies and their characterization, provide an introduction to the DMS technique, and then highlight examples in which DMS has ...
