Hypoalbuminemia is frequently observed in hospitalized patients and it can be associated with several different diseases, including cirrhosis, malnutrition, nephrotic syndrome and sepsis. Regardless of its cause, hypoalbuminemia has a strong predictive value on mortality and morbidity.

Predictive value of hypoalbuminemia and severe hypoalbuminemia in oncologic spine surgery
Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, 2021Retrospective review of a prospectively collected national database. To evaluate the predictive value of hypoalbuminemia on outcomes in surgical spine oncology patients. It is well documented that patients with hypoalbuminemia (albumin 3.5 g/dl). We evaluated outcomes for metastatic oncologic spine surgery patients based on pre-operative albumin levels ...

Hypoalbuminemia in Gastric Carcinoma
Gastroenterology, 1960Summary In 9 patients suffering from gastric carcinoma, a pronounced hypoalbuminemia varying from 2 to 3 gm. per 100 ml. was found in 8. In 7 patients an abnormal fecal excretion of I 131 -polyvinylpyrrolidone was found after intravenous injection of the labeled polymer, suggesting a gastrointestinal leakage of high molecular-weight substances.

Hypoalbuminemia After Renal Transplantation
Archives of Surgery, 1980Changes of serum albumin levels were studied in 20 patients with end-stage renal disease who had undergone renal transplantation. Serum albumin concentrations steadily decreased from a normal pretransplantal value to its lowest level eight to 29 days after transplantation.

Mechanism of hypoalbuminemia in rodents
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 2005Normal albumin loss from the plasma is thought to be minimized by a number of mechanisms, including charge repulsion with the capillary wall and an intracellular rescue pathway involving the major histocompatibility complex-related Fc receptor (FcRn)-mediated mechanism.

Spontaneous echoes due to hypoalbuminemia
Cardiology in the Young, 2004We found spontaneous echoes in two teenagers with nephrotic syndrome and profound hypoalbuminemia, both having normal cardiac structure, function and output. The phenomenon disappeared after the level of albumin normalized. In one patient, all spontaneous echoes disappeared following convalescence, the level of albumin in the serum then being ...
