• Hyporeninemic hypoaldosteronism occurred in a 49-year-old man with chronic endocrine and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency secondary to pancreatectomy and in a 64-year-old man with recurrent pancreatitis, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, and prolonged magnesium deficiency.

Abstract Several investigations have indicated that lack of renin may be the cause of selective hypoaldosteronism and hyperkalemia in man. We found this syndrome in eight diabetic hyperkalemic subjects by evaluating their renin-angiotensin-aldosterone systems.

Aldosterone deficiency is caused by various defects of aldosterone biosynthesis in the adrenal gland or hyporeninism. The most important symptoms are hyponatremia and hyperkalemia. These electrolyte disturbances are also found in pseudohypoaldosteronism.
