Effects of stabilized hypochlorous acid on oral biofilm bacteria
Background Caries and periodontitis are amongst the most prevalent diseases worldwide, leading to pain and loss of oral function for those affected. Prevention relies heavily on mechanical removal of dental plaque biofilms but for populations where this ...

Symmetry Scheme for Amino Acid Codons [PDF]
Group theoretical concepts are invoked in a specific model to explain how only twenty amino acids occur in nature out of a possible sixty four. The methods we use enable us to justify the occurrence of the recently discovered twenty first amino acid selenocysteine, and also enables us to predict the possible existence of two more, as yet undiscovered ...

The kinetics and mechanism of the oxidation of pyruvate ion by hypochlorous acid. [PDF]
The oxidn. of pyruvic acid by hypochlorous acid was studied in the pH 1.0-11.0 range. The main path in the redox process is the reaction between the pyruvate ion and HOCl.

Gut Microbiota-derived Bile Acids Promote Gamma-secretase Activity Through Interactions with Nicastrin Subunits [PDF]
Alzheimer's disease (AD) has emerged as a progressively pervasive neurodegenerative disorder worldwide. Bile acids, synthesized in the liver and modified by the gut microbiota, play pivotal roles in diverse physiological processes, and their dysregulation in individuals with AD has been well-documented.

Reactions of Methotrexate with Hypobromous Acid and Hypochlorous Acid
Methotrexate is a folate antagonist cytotoxic drug employed in the therapy of cancers and rheumatoid arthritis. Hypobromous acid (HOBr) and hypochlorous acid (HOCl) are generated by eosinophils and neutrophils at inflammation sites. The administered methotrexate may encounter HOBr and HOCl, and react with them to generate products.

Harnessing Photo‐Energy Conversion in Nanomaterials for Precision Theranostics
Harnessing photo‐energy conversion in nanomaterials enables precision theranostics through light‐driven mechanisms such as photoluminescence, photothermal, photoelectric, photoacoustic, photo‐triggered surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), and photodynamic processes. This review explores six fundamental principles of photo‐energy conversion, recent

Different selectivities of oxidants during oxidation of methionine residues in the α-1-proteinase inhibitor [PDF]
Oxidation of the reactive site methionine (Met) in α-1-proteinase inhibitor (α-1-PI) to methionine sulfoxide (Met(O)) is known to cause depletion of its elastase inhibitory activity.
