First Record of Flavocillium subprimulinum (Cordycipitaceae, Hypocreales) in Mexico: Morphological and Molecular Characterisation, Nematocidal Activity of Its Liquid Culture Filtrates against Haemonchus contortus and Protease Activity

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
This is the first record of the fungus Flavocillium subprimulinum in Mexico. The isolate was taxonomically characterised and cultured in potato dextrose broth (PDB), Czapek–Dox broth (CzDoxB), and sweet potato dextrose broth (SPDB) to obtain its ...

Seeing Through an Ant's Eyes: Do Entomopathogenic Fungi Extend Their Cognition to Their Hosts?

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Post‐cognitivist approaches recognize cognition as a phenomenon that involves not just brains but all the sensorimotor apparatus of organisms. This means that brains are not always required for the emergence of cognition and that every organism can, in principle, be cognitive, unlocking a theoretical framework to explain the complex adaptive ...

Three New Species of Clonostachys (Hypocreales, Ascomycota) from China

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2022
Three new species of Clonostachys are introduced based on specimens collected from China. Clonostachys chongqingensis sp. nov. is distinguished by pale yellow to pale orange-yellow perithecia with a very low papilla, clavate to subcylindrical asci possessing ellipsoidal to elongate-ellipsoidal spinulose ascospores 13–16 × 4.5–5.5 μm; it has acremonium-

Characterization of soil suppressiveness to root knot nematodes in organic horticulture in plastic greenhouse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The fluctuation of Meloidogyne population density and the percentage of fungal egg parasitism were determined from July 2011 to July 2013 in two commercial organic vegetable production sites (M10.23 and M10.55) in plastic greenhouses, located in ...

Enhancing Stored Wheat Shelf Life: Advances in Storage Technologies, Integrated Pest Management, and Climate‐Responsive Approaches

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 15, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
ABSTRACT Recent advances in agricultural production and storage systems have contributed to a significant enhancement in annual wheat production and preservation, aimed at satisfying increasing consumer demands. Despite such potential developments, there are still significant post‐harvest losses in stored wheat, induced by destructive pests, grain ...

Differentiation of entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana (Ascomycetes: Hypocreales) isolates by PCR-RFLP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana is a promising biological control agent of several insect pests in agriculture. Molecular approaches (PCR, DNA sequence analysis and PCR-RFLP) were used in our research as tools for the identification of ...

Lecanicillium aphanocladii: a biocontrol agent against insect pests and phytopathogens

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 5, Page 4089-4103, May 2026.
Recent research findings on the biocontrol potential of Lecanicillium aphanocladii fungus against insect‐pests and plant diseases were highlighted. This review indicates that several L. aphanocladii strains show great potential to be developed as multipurpose biocontrol agents active against several insect‐pests, plant diseases and plant parasitic ...

Phylogeny and Systematics of the Genus Tolypocladium (Ophiocordycipitaceae, Hypocreales)

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2022
The taxonomy and phylogeny of the genus Tolypocladium are herein revised based on the most comprehensive dataset to date. Two species-level phylogenies of Tolypocladium were constructed: a single-gene phylogeny (ITS) of 35 accepted species and a multigene phylogeny (nrSSU, nrLSU, tef-1α, rpb1, and rpb2) of 27 accepted species.

Nitrogen deposition does not exacerbate phosphorus limitation of rhizosphere microbes in subalpine forests

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 1428-1442, May 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The stoichiometric imbalance caused by nitrogen (N) deposition typically exacerbates phosphorus (P) limitation in plants. However, it remains unclear whether this effect extends to soil microbes, particularly those in the rhizosphere.
