Spontaneous and iatrogenic hypoglycemia in cystic fibrosis

open access: yesJournal of Clinical & Translational Endocrinology, 2021
Spontaneous episodes of hypoglycemia can occur in people with cystic fibrosis (CF) without diabetes, who are not on glucose lowering medications. Spontaneous hypoglycemia in CF could occur both in the fasting or postprandial state (reactive hypoglycemia).

Beyond Glucose-Only Assessment: Advancing Nocturnal Hypoglycemia Prediction in Children with Type 1 Diabetes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The dead-in-bed syndrome describes the sudden and unexplained death of young individuals with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) without prior long-term complications. One leading hypothesis attributes this phenomenon to nocturnal hypoglycemia (NH), a dangerous drop in blood glucose during sleep.

Drug‐Event Pairs as Indicators for the Detection of Adverse Drug Reactions during Hospitalization in Routinely Collected Electronic Data Sources

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are a common cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients. Identification of ADRs in clinical practice, surveillance and research is essential to prevent further harm. The aim of this study was to assess the likelihood of drugs contributing to clinically important inpatient adverse events, in order to provide ...

Environmentally Sustainable Preparation of Oleuropein and Its Dialdehydic Derivatives in a Simple Pharmaceutical Formulation

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
A “phenolic complex“ with oxygen scavenging power similar to a mixture of phenols extracted from an EVOO was obtained by the one‐step Krapcho's decarboxylation of oleuropein in ChCl:citric acid 1 : 1 DES. The mixture is a potential ready‐to‐use active formulation able to emulate the antioxidant power of EVOO.

Premature Mortality in Patients With Anorexia Nervosa: A Matched Cohort Study of Cause of Death

open access: yesInternational Journal of Eating Disorders, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine the extent to which anorexia nervosa is associated with premature mortality. Method We carried out a matched cohort study of 7332 male and female patients with anorexia nervosa and 73,215 patient controls who were admitted between 1989 and 2023 in hospital centers of Quebec, Canada. We tracked the patients longitudinally

The effect and underlying mechanisms of titanium dioxide nanoparticles on glucose homeostasis: A literature review

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 43, Issue 1, Page 22-31, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is used extensively as a white pigment in the food industry, personal care, and a variety of products of everyday use. Although TiO2 has been categorized as a bioinert material, recent evidence has demonstrated different toxicity profiles of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) and a potential health risk to humans.

Recurrent Events Modeling Based on a Reflected Brownian Motion with Application to Hypoglycemia [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Patients with type 2 diabetes need to closely monitor blood sugar levels as their routine diabetes self-management. Although many treatment agents aim to tightly control blood sugar, hypoglycemia often stands as an adverse event. In practice, patients can observe hypoglycemic events more easily than hyperglycemic events due to the perception of ...
