Hypoglycemic Action of Tryptophan
Diabetes, 1973These studies were designed to define the mechanism by which the tryptophan metabolite, quinolinic acid, blocks gluconeogenesis and to determine the role it plays in influencing this process under physiologic and pathologic conditions. An alteration in the level of gluconeogenic intermediates occurred at a quinolinic acid content of 43 ng.

The management of the hypoglycemic patient
World Journal of Surgery, 1982AbstractOrganic hypoglycemia may be caused by an insulinoma. This is a rare tumor, multiple in about 10% and malignant in about 10% of cases. Multiplicity is particularly likely when insulinoma occurs as part of the MEN 1 syndrome. When a patient exhibits Whipple's triad, synchronous blood sugar and insulin estimations must be made, and repeated during

Hypoglycemic Peripheral Neuropathy
Archives of Neurology, 1969PERIPHERAL neuropathy is a rare finding in spontaneous hypoglycemia, and only 22 patients have been reported in the literature (Table 1). 1-12 The purpose of this communication is to report two additional cases and to analyze the clinical presentation of peripheral neurological symptoms that occasionally accompany spontaneous hypoglycemia.

The FDA and Hypoglycemic Drugs
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1975THE NELSON Committee hearings in the US Senate (Sept 18 to 20, 1974) explored thesafety, effectiveness, anduseof hypoglycemic drugs. A dozen witnesses, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Dr. Alexander Schmidt, gave testimony concerning the implications of the University Group Diabetes Program (UGDP) articles for medical ...

Hypoglycemic hemiplegic syndrome
Annals of Emergency Medicine, 1984Hypoglycemia must be considered in any patient with an acute change of mental status or in a patient who shows a focal neurological deficit. Treatment with high IV glucose concentrations can save the patient from grave irreversible neurological sequelae and death.

Pediatrics, 1969
I noted with interest the article by Drs. Adam and Schwartz, "Should Oral Hypoglycemic Agents Be Used in Pediatric and Pregnant Patients?" (Pediatrics, 42:819, 1968). In regard to juvenile diabetics, his conclusions were an echo of what usually appears in the ped iatric literature, namely, these drugs have no place in the management of any pediatric ...

On the hypoglycemizing effect of metahexamide

HYPOGLYCEMIC REACTIONS TO INSULIN
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1951Hypoglycemia may be brought about by several conditions, among which are various glandular conditions. There is hyperinsulinism as a result of islet cell tumor of the pancreas, the hypoglycemia due to Simmonds' disease of the pituitary, and hypoglycemia due to myxedematous condition of the thyroid.
