Hypolipidemic and Antioxidant Properties of a Polysaccharide Fraction From Enteromorpha prolifera

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2013
A polysaccharide fraction (EPF2) was obtained from the crude polysaccharides of Enteromorpha prolifera by a series isolation procedure. Monosaccharide components analysis indicated that EPF2 was composed of rhamnose, xylose, mannose, galactose and ...

Hypolipidemic imidazoles

Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 1975
A series of analogs of N-benzylimidazole was prepared and tested for hypolipidemic activity. Both plasma cholesterol and triglyceride-lowering activity were found in several members of the series. The most active compounds were N-3-methoxy-, N-4-methoxy-, and N-4-methylbenzylimidazole. Structure-activity relationships are discussed.

Hypolipidemic arylthioalkanoic acids

Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 1977
A series of arylthioalkanoic acids related to probucol was studied for hypolipidemic activity. Homologation of the alkyl side chain led to marked changes in the serum cholesterol and serum triglyceride lowering activity in rats with the best combination of properties appearing in compound 7, 2-[3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)thio]hexanoic acid ...

Hepatotoxicity of hypolipidemic drugs

Clinics in Liver Disease, 2003
Dyslipidemic conditions and their cardiovascular related complications are common. Effective primary and secondary prevention strategies include therapies to lower LDL and total cholesterol and to increase HDL. Further, it seems that there is a need for therapeutic reduction in triglycerides as it emerges as an independent risk factor for CVD.

New Hypolipidemic Drugs

1978
The past 12 months have been an encouraging period for the development of new hypolipidemic agents. The Food and Drug Administration approved the drugs Probucol from Dow Chemical Company and Colestipol-HCl from Upjohn Company as official hypolipidemic agents.

Hypolipidemic activity of rifamycin derivatives

Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 1990
Series of 3-piperidinyl- and 3-piperazinylrifamycins and to a certain extent 3-hydrazonorifamycins all bearing lipophilic side chains were found to exert potent hypolipidemic activity in lowering both serum cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol in rats.

Newer Hypolipidemic Compounds

1975
The inhibition of lipidemia can be achieved in several ways. The most logical mechanism — interference with lipoprotein metabolism (synthesis, release or catabolism) — has not been approached in a rational manner. There are some effective hypolipidemic drugs but their mechanisms of action are not clear and the search for a more effective compound ...

Hypolipidemic therapy and cholesterol absorption

Current Atherosclerosis Reports, 2004
The advent of safe and effective hypolipidemic therapy has revolutionized the ability of the clinician to optimize abnormalities in the lipid profile. The advent of statin therapy has provided a potent option to decrease low-density lipoprotein and frequently allows achievement of National Cholesterol Education Program target lipid levels with ...

Mechanisms of the Hypolipidemic Action of Fibrates

1998
Fibrates are generally effective in lowering elevated plasma triglycerides and cholesterol. The magnitude of lipid changes depends however upon the patients’ pretreatment lipoprotein status [1],as well as upon the unique properties of each fibrate. The most pronounced effects of fibrates are a decrease in plasma triglyceride-rich lipoproteins and an ...

The Current Status of Hypolipidemic Drugs

Postgraduate Medicine, 1970
Dietary counseling is recommended as the first step in management of the patient with an abnormally high plasma cholesterol or triglyceride level. If diet alone does not bring about a satisfactory reduction, addition of a lipid-lowering drug should be considered.
