Antibiotic-associated hypoprothrombinemia
Infectious Diseases Newsletter, 1992Abstract An individual patient's vitamin K status and concomitant risk factors related to underlying disease determine the likelihood of hypoprothrombinemia and bleeding in patients requiring antibiotics. Patients at highest risk should be identified and monitored more aggressively or given prophylactic vitamin K.

Pharmacotherapy: The Journal of Human Pharmacology and Drug Therapy, 1987Hypoprothrombinemia is a relatively uncommon event in the hospitalized patient. When it does occur, it often is associated with surgery, dietary vitamin K deficiency, renal dysfunction, malignancy, and broad‐spectrum antibiotic therapy.

SALICYLATE‐INDUCED HYPOPROTHROMBINEMIA
Acta Medica Scandinavica, 1970Abstract.Four cases of severe hypoprothrombinemia caused by acetylsalicylic acid in therapeutic doses are reported. All cases were verified by positive provocation tests. The hypoprothrombinemia was accompanied by bleeding episodes in two of the four patients.

Southern Medical Journal, 1987Cefoperazone, a beta-lactam antibiotic with a methylthiotetrazole side chain, has been reported infrequently to cause hypoprothrombinemia and hemorrhage. We retrospectively analyzed the records of 80 patients who had been given this drug for more than 72 hours.

Oral phytonadione in neonatal hypoprothrombinemia
The Journal of Pediatrics, 1959Summary Orally administered phytonadione in doses of 2 mg. of an emulsion given in a dextrose feeding formula on the first day of life is as effective as menadiol sodium biphosphate given intramuscularly in doses of 2.5 mg. in preventing abnormal elevations of the prothrombin time during the first five neonatal days.
