Insights into a long life without cancer: The case of the bowhead whale

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 6, Page 1388-1391, June 2026.
Long‐lived, large‐bodied organisms have evolved powerful anticancer mechanisms that preserve cellular and tissue integrity across extended lifespans. A recent study by Firsanov et al. shows that greater genome stability is a key factor underlying the remarkable longevity and cancer resistance of one such species, the bowhead whale.

Magnetothermal‐Triggered Response and Self‐Healing of Recyclable and Reprocessable Nanocomposites for Actuation Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 45, 5 June 2026.
Developing recyclable materials for magnetic robotics that combine rapid response and self‐healing properties is challenging. Hence, this study focuses on the integration of magnetothermal nanoparticles into a dynamic sorbitol‐based vitrimer, a recyclable composite capable of remote actuation and self‐healing by magnetic heating.

Hybrid Magnetoactive Soft Elastomers: Material Development Toward Application in Diaphragm Pumps

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 11, 5 June 2026.
Hybrid magnetoactive soft elastomeric membranes are developed by combining two different types of magnetic particles. The membranes exhibit distinct mechanical, magnetic and thermal properties owing to the unique characteristics of the two magnetic particles.

Use of Therapeutic Hypothermia in Cocaine-Induced Cardiac Arrest: Further Evidence

open access: yes, 2014
Therapeutic hypothermia is an important and successful treatment that has been endorsed only in specific clinical settings of cardiac arrest. Inclusion criteria thus far have not embraced drug-induced cardiac arrest, but clinical evidence has been ...

LncRNA MIR503HG serves as a diagnostic biomarker in patients with sepsis and regulates sepsis‐induced inflammation and cardiac dysfunction

open access: yesJournal of Cell Communication and Signaling, Volume 20, Issue 2, June 2026.
MIR503HG was downregulated in sepsis and sepsis‐induced cardiac dysfunction (SICD) and served as a diagnostic biomarker. Overexpression of MIR503HG attenuated myocardial injury and systemic inflammation in a septic rat model. Mechanistically, MIR503HG acted as a ceRNA by sponging miR‐497‐5p to upregulate BDNF, revealing a protective MIR503HG/miR‐497‐5p/

Actively induced hypothermia following severe traumatic brain injury

open access: yes, 2010
A Cochrane metaanalysis and a study performed on children have recently confirmed that therapeutic hypothermia does not improve outcome after severe traumatic brain injury (TBI).
