Hypothermic oxygenated perfusion for a steatotic liver graft

open access: yesHepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International, 2020
Donor steatosis represents a well-known risk factor for primary non-function, early allograft dysfunction, and biliary complications after liver transplantation (LT). Recently, machine perfusion (MP) technology has been implemented in the clinical practice, with the primary intent to assess the graft quality and to optimize the organ selection process.

Pancreas Preservation: Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion to Improve Graft Reperfusion

open access: yesTransplantation
Background. The clinical standard for pancreas preservation for transplantation is static cold storage (SCS). Oxygenation during preservation has been shown to be advantageous in clinical studies. This study evaluates the efficiency of different oxygenation modalities during hypothermic pancreas preservation.

A Comparison of the Metabolic Effects of Continuous Hypothermic Perfusion or Oxygenated Persufflation during Hypothermic Storage of Rat Liver

open access: yesCryobiology, 2001
The metabolic consequences of supplying oxygen by two different modes were investigated. The effects of hypothermic liver preservation after cold hypoxic flush (Group I), oxygenated vascular persufflation (Group II), and continuous oxygenated perfusion (Group III) were compared.

Hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE) for fatty liver grafts in rats and humans

Journal of Hepatology, 2018
Pretreatment of marginal organs by perfusion is a promising opportunity to make more organs available for transplantation. Protection of human donation after cardiac death (DCD) livers by a novel machine perfusion technique, hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE), was recently established.

Hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE) protects from biliary injury in a rodent model of DCD liver transplantation

open access: yesJournal of Hepatology, 2013
BACKGROUND & AIMS: The use of livers from donors after cardiac arrest (DCD) is increasing in many countries to overcome organ shortage. Due to additional warm ischemia before preservation, those grafts are at higher risk of failure and bile duct injury ...

Evaluation of a Novel System for Hypothermic Oxygenated Pulsatile Perfusion Preservation

The International Journal of Artificial Organs, 2009
Background Recently, a novel innovative machine perfusion (MP) system for hypothermic oxygenated pulsatile perfusion called the Airdrive (AD) has been developed. The aim of the study was to evaluate the biological safety of the AD system for perfusion preservation of kidney grafts in a porcine ...

Oxygen Consumption During Oxygenated Hypothermic Perfusion as a Measure of Donor Organ Viability

ASAIO Journal, 2013
Hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP) for the preservation of kidneys, recovered from extended criteria organ donors (ECDs), presents the opportunity for assessing ex vivo parameters that may have value in predicting postimplantation organ viability. Organ perfusion and vascular resistance are the parameters most frequently cited as the basis for the ...

Hypothermic oxygenated perfusion: cellular mechanisms and clinical outcomes

Current Opinion in Organ Transplantation
Purpose of review Machine perfusion has emerged as a transformative technique in organ transplantation, helping to address the persistent organ shortage while mitigating ischemia-reperfusion injury. Since the 2010s, its implementation in Europe has expanded access to life-saving transplants. This review examines

Oxygen consumption and blood flow in the hypothermic, perfused kidney

American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1959
Temperature was diminished in a stepwise fashion in the isolated kidney of the dog perfused from a peripheral artery of the original, normothermic animal. Decreased temperature resulted in an appreciable reduction of renal blood flow at constant arterial blood pressure.
