The hysteresis loss in liquids is an absorption process that cannot be explained by the classical theory of mechanical relaxation. Here a model involving the relaxation of atomic clusters is developed. It is shown that the hysteresis loss is a consequence of the size distribution of large clusters.

Hysteresis losses in Bi-2223 superconductors

In this study we examine magnetic hysteresis losses in Bi-2223 bulk superconductors. Two kinds of hysteresis losses were found in the samples: losses in superconducting grains and losses due to the intergranular weak link structure. Total losses at 77 K were about an order of magnitude higher than losses in grains.

Hysteresis losses in superconducting coil

The hysteretic losses of superconducting coils are measured and the results are compared with theoretical calculations. Wires used for coils are Nb-Ti twisted ones with 19 filaments. Coupling between filaments may be negligible, because they are insulated electrically from each other.
