Constraining the p-Mode–g-Mode Tidal Instability with GW170817

We analyze the impact of a proposed tidal instability coupling p modes and g modes within neutron stars on GW170817. This nonresonant instability transfers energy from the orbit of the binary to internal modes of the stars, accelerating the gravitational-wave driven inspiral.

Our previous introduction of transition dipole coupling helped to explain the splittings in the Amide I modes of antiparallel chain pleated sheet polyglycine I. This mechanism has now been applied to the more likely rippled sheet structure of this polypeptide as well as to the pleated sheet structure of poly(L-alanine).

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
