Anifrolumab Treatment Leads to Rapid Reduction in Urinary Biomarkers of Intrarenal Inflammation in Lupus Nephritis: Results From the Phase 2 Randomized Trial

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Lupus nephritis (LN) is one of the most severe manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and is partially driven by type I interferon signaling. Anifrolumab, an approved treatment for patients with SLE, has been investigated in a phase 2 trial in patients with LN receiving standard therapy (TULIP‐LN, ClinicalTrials.gov identifier ...

Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.

IL-33 promotes ICAM-1 expression via NF-kB in murine mast cells

open access: yesAllergology International, 2016
Background: IL-33, a member of the IL-1 cytokine family, binds to heterodimeric receptors ST2 and IL-1 receptor accessory protein, and activates Th2-type immune responses.

miR-221 suppresses ICAM-1 translation and regulates interferon-γ-induced ICAM-1 expression in human cholangiocytes

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 2010
Aberrant cholangiocyte reactions in response to inflammatory stimuli are important pathogenic factors for the persistent biliary inflammation in patients with cholangiopathies. Overexpression of intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in cholangiocytes is a common pathological feature in inflammatory cholangiopathies and can promote ...

Atomically precise metal cluster enzymes for pathological tissue regeneration

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of atomically precise metal cluster enzymes (MCEs) for pathological tissue regeneration. Atomically precise MCEs can modulate biological processes, such as attenuation of inflammatory responses, eradication of bacterial pathogens, regulation of angiogenesis, and promotion of cell development.

Commonalities of platelet dysfunction in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and underlying comorbidities

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1013-1028, April 2025.
Abstract Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is characterized by a lack of a specific targeted treatment and a complex, partially unexplored pathophysiology. Common comorbidities associated with HFpEF are hypertension, atrial fibrillation, obesity and diabetes.

ICAM-1 expression on chondrocytes in rheumatoid arthritis: induction by synovial cytokines

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 1992
The intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) was found by immunostaining chondrocytes in cartilage from three patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Expression of ICAM-1 was restricted to chondrocytes in areas of erodedcartilage adjacent to the invading ...

Cardiac remodelling in the era of the recommended four pillars heart failure medical therapy

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1029-1044, April 2025.
Abstract Cardiac remodelling is a key determinant of worse cardiovascular outcome in patients with heart failure (HF) and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). It affects both the left ventricle (LV) structure and function as well as the left atrium (LA) and the right ventricle (RV).

Mortality risk stratification for Takotsubo syndrome: Evaluating CRP measurement alongside the InterTAK prognostic score

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1427-1436, April 2025.
Abstract Background and objectives Initially described as a benign acute cardiomyopathy, Takotsubo syndrome has been linked to elevated mortality rates. Emerging evidence suggests that unresolved myocardial inflammation may contribute to this adverse prognosis.

Possible lack of association between E469K polymorphism of ICAM-1 and non-obstructive azoospermia in south-east Turkey

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2017
Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), a member of the large immunoglobulin superfamily of cell adhesion molecules, is a constituent component of the blood–testis barrier, and it plays a significant role in the homeostasis of spermatogenesis.
