Hysteresis of the Antarctic Ice Sheet With a Coupled Climate‐Ice‐Sheet Model

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
AbstractThe stability of the Antarctic ice sheet under different fixed levels and orbital configurations is explored using a coupled climate‐ice sheet model, starting from either a pre‐industrial ice sheet or an ice‐free, isostatically rebounded geometry.

Engineering Extracellular Vesicle Production Through Magnetic Ion Channel Activation for Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic Ion Channel Activation (MICA) enables remote stimulation of mechanosensitive ion channels using functionalised magnetic nanoparticles, enhancing extracellular vesicle (EV) biogenesis is pre‐osteoblasts. MICA desrived EVs exhibit typical nano‐vesicular characteristics but display superior pro‐osteogeneic activity, promoting mesenchymal stem ...

Progress in paleoclimate modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
International audienceThis paper briefly surveys areas of paleoclimate modeling notable for recent progress. New ideas, including hypotheses giving a pivotal role to sea ice, have revitalized the low-order models used to simulate the time evolution of ...

Three‐Dimensional Ovary Model to Improve and Study Murine Follicle Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
To develop new methods for fertility preservation in women, novel culture systems for small follicles need to be established. In this work, a poly(ethylene glycol) based scaffold, with appropriate mechanical and bioactive features to support mouse follicle and ovary cell growth is developed, and the formed cell‐follicle interactions are visualized ...

Paleo-ice sheet reconstructions constrained by GIA and geological data for use in climate models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Paleo-ice sheet reconstructions are complicated by large uncertainties, particularly since it is usually only possible to infer thickness from indirect means such as the response of glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA).

Oxygen Supply of Islets of Langerhans by Photosynthetically Active Microalgae in Bioprinted Co‐Cultures Maintains Their Function in a Hypoxic Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study developed a bioprinted co‐culture system embedding rat pancreatic islets and Scenedesmus sp. microalgae spatially defined in close vicinity. Red light was found optimal to ensure microalgal photosynthesis while maintaining islet viability and functionality. A tailored co‐culture medium supported both cell types.

Influence of ice-sheet geometry and supraglacial lakes on seasonal ice-flow variability [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere, 2013
Supraglacial lakes play an important role in establishing hydrological connections that allow lubricating seasonal meltwater to reach the base of the Greenland Ice Sheet.

A Simple Model for Deglacial Meltwater Pulses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Evidence from radiocarbon dating and complex ice sheet modeling suggests that the fastest rate of sea level rise in Earth's recent history coincided with collapse of the ice saddle between the Laurentide and Cordilleran ice sheets during the last ...

Modeling of the northern hemisphere ice sheets during the last glacial cycle and glaciological sensitivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We present a new three-dimensional thermomechanically coupled ice sheet model of the northern hemisphere to reconstruct the Quaternary ice sheets during the last glacial cycle.

Microengineered Gradient Hydrogels for Mechanobiology

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Gradient hydrogels are used to mimic the mechanical heterogeneity in native tissues, offering powerful in vitro platforms to study cell‐material interactions in diverse pathophysiological contexts. Here, we present a comprehensive review of the design and experimental considerations for stiffness gradient hydrogels, discussing exemplary achievements ...
