East Greenland ice core dust record reveals timing of Greenland ice sheet advance and retreat

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Accurate measurements of the past extent of the Greenland ice sheet are crucial to understand its response to changing climate conditions. Here, the authors present a dust record from an ice core from the east coast of Greenland to provide detailed time ...

Influence of temperature fluctuations on equilibrium
ice sheet volume
[PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere, 2018
Forecasting the future sea level relies on accurate modeling of the response of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets to changing temperatures. The surface mass balance (SMB) of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) has a nonlinear response to warming. Cold

Ocean processes at the Antarctic continental slope [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The Antarctic continental shelves and slopes occupy relatively small areas, but, nevertheless, are important for global climate, biogeochemical cycling and ecosystem functioning.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Incorporation of lumped IVOC emissions into the ORACLE model (V1.1): a multi-product framework for assessing global SOA formation from internal combustion engines [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development
Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) is a major component of particulate matter but is often underpredicted in chemistry climate models. Recent advances in measuring and resolving the chemically complex structure of intermediate volatile organic compounds ...

Investigation of North Pacific sea ice anomalies in the context of atmospheric and oceanic variability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Thesis (M.S.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2001This study investigates the main mode of variability in North Pacific sea ice and examines the relationship between sea ice concentration and northern hemispheric climate variability for the period 1968 ...

The Role of Calcitonin Gene‐Related Peptide in High‐Altitude Headache: A Prospective Field Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective High‐altitude headache (HAH) is a common neurological condition associated with rapid ascent to high altitude. The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying HAH remain incompletely understood. Calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP), a neuropeptide implicated in migraine pathophysiology, may play a key role in the pathophysiology of ...

A microphysics guide to cirrus – Part 3: Occurrence patterns of cloud particles [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics
Cloud particle size distributions (PSDs) are crucial in determining the clouds physical and optical properties and hence their radiative feedback to the climate.

A first chronology for the North Greenland Eemian Ice Drilling (NEEM) ice core [PDF]

open access: yesClimate of the Past, 2013
A stratigraphy-based chronology for the North Greenland Eemian Ice Drilling (NEEM) ice core has been derived by transferring the annual layer counted Greenland Ice Core Chronology 2005 (GICC05) and its model extension (GICC05modelext) from the NGRIP core

Simulating higher-order fabric structure in a coupled, anisotropic ice-flow model: application to Dome C

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 2023
Ice-crystal fabric can induce mechanical anisotropy that significantly affects flow, but ice-flow models generally do not include fabric development or its effect upon flow.
