Simulations of ice chemistry in cometary nuclei. [PDF]
Abstract The first computational model of solid-phase chemistry in cometary nuclear ices is presented. An astrochemical kinetics model, the Model for Astrophysical Gas and Ice Chemical Kinetics And Layering, is adapted to trace the chemical evolution in multiple layers of cometary ice, over a representative period of 5 Gyr.

Confirmation-dependent organic phosphor reveals amino acid nanoaggregates in ice with insight for prebiotic chemistry [PDF]
Freezing-induced enrichment of organic solutes within ice has long been hypothesized to play a pivotal role in prebiotic chemistry and the origins of life, yet direct evidence for the in-ice aggregation of dilute, water-soluble organics has remained ...

The new frontier of microstructural impurity research in polar ice
Deciphering the localisation of solid and dissolved impurities on the micron-scale in glacial ice remains a challenge, but is critical to understand the integrity of ice core records and internal deformation.

We developed a novel laser melting sampler (LMS) for ice cores to measure the stable water isotope ratios (δ18O and δD) as temperature proxies at sub-centimeter depth resolutions.

Shallow firn cores, in addition to a near-basal ice core, were recovered in 2018 from the Quelccaya ice cap (5470 m a.s.l) in the Cordillera Vilcanota, Peru, and in 2017 from the Nevado Illimani glacier (6350 m a.s.l) in the Cordillera Real, Bolivia. The

A multi-millennial record of rock glacier ice chemistry (Lazaun, Italy)
Active rock glaciers—known as mixtures of unconsolidated debris with interstitial ice, ice lenses or a core of massive ice—are widespread indicators of mountain permafrost. The age of a frozen rock glacier core in the Central European Alps (Lazaun, Italy)

Cold cloud microphysical process rates in a global chemistry–climate model [PDF]
Microphysical processes in cold clouds which act as sources or sinks of hydrometeors below 0 ∘C control the ice crystal number concentrations (ICNCs) and in turn the cloud radiative effects.

Inclusions in ice layers formed by melting and refreezing processes in a Greenland ice core
In recent decades, surface melting on the inland Greenland ice sheet has increased, leading to significant meltwater-refreezing in the snow and firn.

Pan-Arctic surface ozone: modelling vs. measurements [PDF]
Within the framework of the International Arctic Systems for Observing the Atmosphere (IASOA), we report a modelling-based study on surface ozone across the Arctic. We use surface ozone from six sites – Summit (Greenland), Pallas (Finland), Barrow (USA),

CHEMISTRY IN EVAPORATING ICES—UNEXPLORED TERRITORY [PDF]
We suggest that three-body chemistry may occur in warm high density gas evaporating in transient co\textendash desorption events on interstellar ices. Using a highly idealised computational model we explore the chemical conversion from simple species of the ice to more complex species containing several heavy atoms, as a function of density and of ...
