How Ice Composition Controls Radiatively Driven Convection Under Lake Ice

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Light transmission through the ice cover of lakes can heat near‐surface waters and result in radiatively driven convection (RDC), a prominent source of under‐ice water motion in spring.

THE EFFECTS OF CHILLING AND FREEZING TO THE CRUDE FAT, ASH AND MOISTURE CONTENT OF Channa striata (Bloch, 1793) AND Clarias batrachus (Linnaeus, 1758)

open access: yesJournal of Academia, 2020
Crushed ice is commonly used to chill the fish before they are consumed. However, the information about the effects of the use application of cubed ice to maintain the proximate composition of freshwater fish is limited.

Formation of glacier runoff on the northern slope of Tavan Bogd mountain massif based on stable isotopes data

open access: yesЛëд и снег, 2018
This investigation is based on measurements of stable isotopes concentrations (δD and δ18О) in water, snow and ice samples. Glaciers are composed of ice, snow, and fi n of atmospheric origin.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Timing of Ice Retreat Determines Summer State of Zooplankton Community in the Ob Estuary (the Kara Sea, Siberian Arctic)

open access: yesDiversity, 2023
In the estuaries of large Siberian rivers, ice coverage and the timing of ice retreat have varied in recent decades under the ongoing climate change. The seasonal development and functioning of the mesozooplankton community depend to a great extent on ...

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

Microbial nitrogen cycling on the Greenland Ice Sheet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Nitrogen inputs and microbial nitrogen cycling were investigated along a 79 km transect into the Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) during the main ablation season in summer 2010. The depletion of dissolved nitrate and production of ammonium (relative to icemelt)

Drivers of winter ice formation on Arctic water bodies in the Lena Delta, Siberia

open access: yesArctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research
Arctic landscapes are characterized by diverse water bodies, which are covered with ice for most of the year. Ice controls surface albedo, hydrological properties, gas exchange, and ecosystem services, but freezing processes differ between water bodies ...

Nutrient/TOR signaling controls adipose mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) to regulate organismal growth in Drosophila

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Pigment signatures of algal communities and their implications for glacier surface darkening

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Blooms of pigmented algae darken the surface of glaciers and ice sheets, thereby enhancing solar energy absorption and amplifying ice and snow melt. The impacts of algal pigment and community composition on surface darkening are still poorly understood ...
