A simple model to estimate atmospheric concentrations of aerosol chemical species based on snow core chemistry at Summit, Greenland [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
A simple model is presented to estimate atmospheric concentrations of chemical species that exist primarily as aerosols based on snow core/ice core chemistry at Summit, Greenland. The model considers the processes of snow, fog, and dry deposition.

VALIDATION OF ASMR2 SEA ICE CONCENTRATION DATA USING MODIS DATA [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2019
Passive microwave radiometer AMSR2 was launched by JAXA in May 2012 on-board GCOM-W satellite. The antenna diameter of AMSR2 is 2.0 m which provide highest spatial resolution as a passive microwave radiometer in space.

Characteristics of modern atmospheric dust deposition in snow on the Penny Ice Cap, Baffin Island, Arctic Canada [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We evaluated the concentration, size and distribution of insoluble dust microparticles in snowpits on the Penny Ice Cap (PIC), Baffin Island, to define (1) the characteristics of modern atmospheric dust deposition at the site, (2) the relative ...

Ice morphology modification and solute recovery improvement by heating and annealing during block freeze-concentration of coffee extracts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Several treatments on ice blocks can be applied during block freeze-concentration to increase the solute recovery from the ice. In the present study, the changes in the ice block’s temperature and the application of annealing during the block freeze ...

Prediction of monthly Arctic sea ice concentrations using satellite and reanalysis data based on convolutional neural networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Changes in Arctic sea ice affect atmospheric circulation, ocean current, and polar ecosystems. There have been unprecedented decreases in the amount of Arctic sea ice due to global warming.

REAL-TIME MEASUREMENT OF ICE CONCENTRATIONS IN ICE SLURRY FLOW

open access: yesInternational Journal of Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration, 2010
An experimental study was performed to measure the ice concentration of an ice slurry pipe flow in real time. In the present work, we suggest a refractive index measurement method and compare it to freezing point and density measurement methods. To measure the refractive index of the solution, ice particles in the ice slurry should be completely ...

In situ measurements of tropical cloud properties in the West African Monsoon: upper tropospheric ice clouds, Mesoscale Convective System outflow, and subvisual cirrus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In situ measurements of ice crystal size distributions in tropical upper troposphere/lower stratosphere (UT/LS) clouds were performed during the SCOUT-AMMA campaign over West Africa in August 2006.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Multiphase imaging of freezing particle suspensions by confocal microscopy

open access: yes, 2017
Ice-templating is a well-established processing route for porous ceramics. Because of the structure/properties relationships, it is essential to better understand and control the solidification microstructures.

Ice crystal number concentration estimates from lidar–radar satellite remote sensing – Part 2: Controls on the ice crystal number concentration [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2018
Abstract. The ice crystal number concentration (Ni) is a key property of ice clouds, both radiatively and microphysically. Due to sparse in situ measurements of ice cloud properties, the controls on the Ni have remained difficult to determine. As more advanced treatments of ice clouds are included in global models, it is becoming increasingly necessary
