Protein Decoys, Alcohol, and Energy Intake: Testing a Mechanistic‐Ecological Model

open access: yesObesity Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ultra‐processed diets are associated with excessive energy intake, but studies examining the role of alcohol have produced conflicting results, despite the high energy density of ethanol. We constructed a mechanistic‐ecological model to explain this inconsistency and tested its predictions using population dietary data.

Polar Lipid and Fatty Acid Profiles of Oat Groats Substantially Influenced by Field Management: A Comparison of Cultivars, Sowing Times and Fertilizer Composition

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The polar lipids in oat grains are crucial due to their biological functions, nutritional quality, potential use in food flavour and processing, the protection they provide against biotic and abiotic stresses, and their ability to act as cellular signalling molecules.

How Theists Can Answer the “Why be Moral?” Question: An Indirect Reason‐Generation Account

open access: yesAnalytic Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this paper, I give a new type of theistic answer to the “Why be moral?” question. After briefly clarifying the version of the question I'm concerned with, as well as extant theistic answers to the question, I argue for a new kind of answer. Roughly, while on standard answers, future (post death) benefits directly generate present reason to ...

Alleviation of photoaging‐associated MMP upregulation, prostanoid biosynthesis, and cell cycle arrest with titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, and inorganic‐only (ZnO + TiO2) sunscreens

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Inorganic sunscreens containing the UV filters titanium dioxide (TiO2) and/or zinc oxide (ZnO) alleviated various biomarkers of photoaging in human dermal fibroblasts, at a gene and protein level. The study provides novel insights that observe the impact of inorganic photoprotection through the molecular biology of skin.
