Diverse behaviors of marine ice sheets in response to temporal variability of the atmospheric and basal conditions

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
The observed retreat of the grounding line of the present-day ice sheets and the simulated grounding-line retreat of ice sheets under changing climate conditions are often interpreted as indications of marine ice-sheet instability (MISI), driven by a ...

Order and thermalized dynamics in Heisenberg-like square and Kagom\'e spin ices

open access: yes, 2014
Thermodynamic properties of a spin ice model on a Kagom\'e lattice are obtained from dynamic simulations and compared with properties in square lattice spin ice.

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...

Dynamical response of the southwestern Laurentide Ice Sheet to rapid Bølling–Allerød warming [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere
The shift in climate that occurred between the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) and the Early Holocene (ca. 18–12 kyr BP) displayed rates of temperature increase similar to present-day warming trends.

Glacitectonics – a key approach to examining ice dynamics, substrate rheology and ice-bed coupling

open access: yes, 2013
The role of ice masses within the Earth's climate system and in landscape change is increasingly being recognised within regions that are either currently glaciated or were glaciated during the geological past.

The kinetics of ice-lens growth in porous media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We analyse the growth rate of segregated ice (ice lenses) in freezing porous media. For typical colloidal materials such as soils we show that the commonly-employed Clapeyron equation is not valid macroscopically at the interface between the ice lens and

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

Diurnal Variation of Cloud Physical Properties for Tropical Cyclones Over North Atlantic in 2019–2023

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Diurnal cloud variations critically modulate tropical cyclone (TC) precipitation and intensity, yet remain poorly understood due to the lack of continuous observations.

The effect of landfast sea ice buttressing on ice dynamic speedup in the Larsen B embayment, Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere
We observe the evacuation of 11-year-old landfast sea ice in the Larsen B embayment on the East Antarctic Peninsula in January 2022, which was in part triggered by warm atmospheric conditions and strong offshore winds.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.
