Expected Arctic Sea Ice extent as on 2036
2016 International Conference on Recent Advances and Innovations in Engineering (ICRAIE), 2016This paper is an extension to the paper entitled “Arctic Sea Ice Variability and Trend over Past Two Decade” presented in National Symposium on Weather & Climate Extremes, Chandigarh [1]. There the arctic sea ice variability was studied from 1990 to 2012 only.

Seasonal ice extent on the northeast Newfoundland shelf
Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1986Over the Northeast Newfoundland Shelf the main source of ice is advection from the north by winds and currents. Using historical ice charts, it is shown that the advance of ice is limited by ice melt throughout the winter months when the ocean provides the only source of heat, part of which is lost to the atmosphere and part of which goes to melting ...

Ice extent in the Greenland Sea 1978–1995
Deep Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography, 1999Abstract During the European Subpolar Ocean Programme (ESOP) project from 1993 to 1995, very little ice was formed in the central Greenland Sea. The large-scale ice cover in the area during the period October 1978 to June 1995 has been mapped using passive microwave data from the scanning multichannel microwave radiometer (SMMR) and the special ...

The Last Irish Ice Sheet: Extent and Chronology
2016Radiocarbon ages on sub-till organic material suggest that Ireland was largely ice-free until ~32 ka, after which the last Irish Ice Sheet (IIS) thickened to cover all mountain summits. Offshore moraines and related evidence indicate that the IIS extended westward to the Atlantic shelf break, eastwards into the Irish Sea Basin and southwards to the ...

Southern Ocean sea-ice distributions and extents
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series B: Biological Sciences, 1992Abstract Southern Ocean sea-ice coverage undergoes a large seasonal cycle, with a nearly fivefold increase in areal ice extents from the minimum in February to the maximum in September, and significant interannual variations. Results presented here show in a variety of forms some of the variability that occurred in Southern Ocean sea ...

A General Linear Model for Sea Ice Extent
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2015A general linear model is used for simultaneous identification of short term seasonal variations and long term trends in deseasonalized sea ice extent. It shows a sustained decline of Arctic sea ice extent over the entire study period from 1978 to 2014. No decline of sea ice extent is evident in the Antarctic.
