Spectroscopy and photochemistry of organic compounds in ice
2020Natural ice and snow are always contaminated by diverse inorganic and organic species, many of which can undergo photochemical transformations under solar radiation or react with photochemically produced reactive species. The courses of these reactions are often phase-specific and strongly depend on many factors, such as phase properties of a frozen ...

We present experimental 2D IR spectra of the OH stretch of ice Ih, for both the isotope dilute (5% HOD in D2O) and neat (100% H2O) cases, complemented by simulations using the Lippincott-Schroeder model.

Water–ice phase transition probed by Raman spectroscopy
Journal of Raman Spectroscopy, 2011AbstractRaman spectroscopy was used to study the liquid–solid water phase transition. Special attention was devoted to the OHstretching band of the Raman spectrum, which shows monotonous changes in the temperature range between 10 and − 15 °C. The interpretation of this spectral change, as well as a careful analysis of its integrated scattered ...

Infrared Spectroscopy of Interstellar Ices
1996The development of our understanding of astrophysical ices depends on the interpretation of relevant astronomical observations with the aid of laboratory data for interstellar ice analogues. This paper aims to give an overview of current research, with emphasis on recent results appearing since my previous review of the topic (Whittet, 1993).

FT-IR spectroscopic results in conjunction with simulations show that ice nanocrystals, formed at 70 K and annealed at 140 K, consist of a crystalline core, a highly irregular (though relatively smooth) crystalline surface, and a slightly distorted subsurface region connecting the surface and bulklike interior ice.

Structure, spectroscopy and dynamics of layered H2O and CO2 ices
Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2012Molecular dynamics simulations of structural, spectroscopic and dynamical properties of mixed water-carbon dioxide (H(2)O-CO(2)) ices are discussed over temperature ranges relevant to atmospheric and astrophysical conditions. The simulations employ multipolar force fields to represent electrostatic interactions which are essential for spectroscopic and

Ice Nanoparticles and Ice Adsorbate Interactions: FTIR Spectroscopy and Computer Simulations
2003Studies of ice particles can be designed to obtain basic knowledge of ice nanocrystals and large water clusters, or to provide insight to specific properties of macroscopic condensed phase water systems. The latter properties include the nature of the surface of ice and the H-bond chemistry of ice, examined in this chapter, as well as the homogeneous ...

Ultrasonic Spectroscopy for Simulated Plastic IC Packages
ASME 1997 Turbo Asia Conference, 1997Failure analysis of integrated circuit (IC) packages is a critical element for in house quality control and for problems encountered in service. Plastic IC packages are routinely inspected for delaminations, voids, cracks, and corrosion using the C-mode acoustic microscopy (C-AM). Plastic IC packages are hygroscopic and can absorb moisture subjected to
