Settling velocities of small ice crystals [PDF]

open access: yesTellus, 1977
Settling velocities, masses and external dimensions were determined experimentally for small freely falling ice crystals grown for about 100 s at 12 different temperatures within the range −3.4 to −20°C. The corresponding terminal velocities were calculated using the above measurements, together with the empirical Be-Re relationships, deduced from ...

TerraSAR-X Capabilities in Polar Regions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
DLR participates in a coordinated plan established by the space agencies for the optimum use of SAR acquisitions over the Artic and Antarctica for the remaining period of IPY and beyond. Due to the specific advantages of the X-band in respect to snow and

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Local scour around a bridge pier under ice-jammed flow condition – an experimental study

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology and Hydromechanics, 2021
The appearance of an ice jam in a river crucially distorts local hydrodynamic conditions including water level, flow velocity, riverbed form and local scour processes.

Influence of Velocity on Ice-Cone Interaction

open access: yes, 2001
A series of upward breaking cone tests was conducted at NRC/IMD’s ice tank in level ice using EG/AD/S correct density model ice. Cone angles of 45° and 60° were tested. The effect of ice draft velocity in the range 0.005 to 0.5 m/s was studied for ice thicknesses ranging from 35 to 110 mm. The mean peak forces in both horizontal and vertical directions

Galerkin Least-Squares Stabilization in Ice Sheet Modeling - Accuracy, Robustness, and Comparison to other Techniques

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate the accuracy and robustness of one of the most common methods used in glaciology for the discretization of the $\mathfrak{p}$-Stokes equations: equal order finite elements with Galerkin Least-Squares (GLS) stabilization.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Velocity Anomaly of Campbell Glacier, East Antarctica, Observed by Double-Differential Interferometric SAR and Ice Penetrating Radar

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Regional changes in the flow velocity of Antarctic glaciers can affect the ice sheet mass balance and formation of surface crevasses. The velocity anomaly of a glacier can be detected using the Double-Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Decadal GPS-derived ice surface velocity along the transect from Zhongshan Station to and around Dome Argus, East Antarctica, 2005–16

open access: yesAnnals of Glaciology, 2018
Using repeat GPS measurements during 2005–16, we calculated and updated two-dimensional high-resolution decadal ice surface velocity estimates along the traverse route from Zhongshan Station to and around Dome Argus, East Antarctica.
