Peritoneal Ultrafiltration in the Long-Term Treatment of Chronic Heart Failure Refractory to Pharmacological Therapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
IntroductionDespite continuous improvement in the treatment, heart failure (HF) is a growing health problem and a major cause of mortality and morbidity in the world.

Relationship Between Bioimpedance-Determined Body Composition and Peritoneal Transport in Peritoneal Dialysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
PURPOSE: In peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients, body fluid homeostasis is dependent on peritoneal elimination of water and solutes. Patients with less favorable peritoneal transport parameters should be more overhydrated.

Effects of Intravenous Administration of Vancomycin on Peritonitis in a Patient on Peritoneal Dialysis

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT In settings where intraperitoneal vancomycin is unavailable or off‐label (e.g., Japan), intravenous vancomycin can be a viable treatment option for peritoneal dialysis‐associated peritonitis. Due to limited pharmacokinetic data regarding intravenous dosing, pragmatic strategies involving more frequent therapeutic drug monitoring—measuring both

A randomized clinical trial to evaluate the effects of icodextrin on left ventricular mass index in peritoneal dialysis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Left ventricular hypertrophy is a risk factor for cardiovascular mortality in patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD). Because icodextrin has a greater ultrafiltration power compared with glucose-based solutions for long dwell, it could improve left ...

Peritoneal Lavage With Low GDP Neutral pH PD Solution Reduces Mortality and Severity in a Lethal Peritonitis Model

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, Volume 29, Issue 5, Page 752-759, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction The efficacy of peritoneal lavage monotherapy using PD solution for severe peritonitis remains unproven. Methods We evaluated the effects of 3‐times and 6‐times lavage using low GDP neutral PD solution on a Methicillin‐sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) lethal peritonitis model rats without antibiotic use.

Quantitative Histomorphometry of the Healthy Peritoneum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The peritoneum plays an essential role in preventing abdominal frictions and adhesions and can be utilized as a dialysis membrane. Its physiological ultrastructure, however, has not yet been studied systematically.

Left-sided massive hydrothorax in a DKD patient on CAPD using icodextrin

open access: yesJournal of Diabetology, 2021
We report a case of a 51-year-old male patient with end-stage kidney disease secondary to diabetic kidney disease who presented with an atypical left-sided pleural effusion within 2 weeks of commencement on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (PD ...

Transglutaminase 2 in human peritoneal dialysis‐related peritoneal injury

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 13, Issue 18, September 2025.
Abstract Patients undergoing long‐term peritoneal dialysis (PD) frequently develop peritoneal fibrosis and angiogenesis, leading to membrane dysfunction. Transglutaminase 2 (TG2) stabilizes the extracellular matrix against proteases. In an animal model, inhibition of TG2 reduced peritoneal fibrosis, angiogenesis, and inflammation.

Effect of icodextrin or glucose peritoneal dialysis solutions on triglyceride and erythrocyte membrane oleic acid contents in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis [PDF]

open access: yesKosin Medical Journal
Background Cardiovascular complications related to dyslipidemia are common in patients with chronic kidney disease, particularly among those undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD).

Injectable and Sprayable Thermoresponsive Hydrogel with Fouling‐Resistance as an Effective Barrier to Prevent Postoperative Cardiac Adhesions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 23, June 20, 2025.
Postoperative cardiac adhesions lead to numerous difficulties in reoperation procedures. Here, a thermo‐responsive in situ formed hydrogel is shown to can reliably cover the wounds after a convenient spraying or injection and significantly reduce adhesion formation in primary and recurrent cardiac injury adhesion models.
