An idealized discrete element model for pavement-wheel interaction
In order to design a longer-lasting pavement, it is important for pavement designers to understand the mechanism of the vehicular loading. The main objective of this paper is to present an idealized discrete element modeling of pavementwheel interaction ...

Physical mechanisms controlling self-aggregation of convection in idealized numerical modeling simulations [PDF]
We elucidate the physics of self-aggregation by applying a new diagnostic technique to the output of a cloud resolving model. Specifically, the System for Atmospheric Modeling is used to perform 3- D cloud system resolving simulations of radiative ...

ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Simulation and data assimilation in an idealized coupled atmosphere–ocean–sea ice floe model with cloud effects [PDF]
Sea ice plays a crucial role in the climate system, particularly in the Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ), a transitional area consisting of fragmented ice between the open ocean and consolidated pack ice.

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

Modeling and Analysis of Metamaterial-Based Backward Wave Oscillator Using PIC Simulation [PDF]
The paper presents the modeling and analysis of backward wave oscillators (BWOs) using the MAGIC particle-in-cell (PIC) solver, a high-resolution 2D/3D finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) tool with perfectly matched layer (PML) boundary conditions.

This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

Idealizations in Empirical Modeling [PDF]
In empirical modeling, mathematics has an important utility in transforming descriptive representations of target system(s) into calculation devices, thus creating useful scientific models. The transformation may be considered as the action of tools. In this paper, I assume that model idealizations could be such tools.
