Systems identification in biology

Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control, 1982
The nature of system identification in biological systems is analysed, in order to show what are the special features of biological systems in relation to the identification process, and to reveal what general lessons for measurement and control can be learned from the quantitative study of biological systems.

Identification of parameters in systems biology

Mathematical Biosciences, 2018
We consider the inverse problem for the identification of the finite dimensional set of parameters for systems of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) arising in systems biology. A numerical method which combines Bellman's quasilinearization with sensitivity analysis and Tikhonov's regularization is implemented.

Identification and biology of α‐secretase

Journal of Neurochemistry, 2011
J. Neurochem.(2012)120(Suppl. 1), 34–45.Absract‘Secretase’ is a generic term coined more than 20 years ago to refer to a group of proteases responsible for the cleavage of a vast number of membrane proteins. These endoproteolytic events result in the extracellular or intracellular release of soluble metabolites associated with a broad range of ...

DWARF BUNT: Politics, Identification, and Biology [PDF]

open access: possibleAnnual Review of Phytopathology, 1996
▪ Abstract  Dwarf bunt is a disease of wheat caused by the smut fungus Tilletia controversa Kuhn. Winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is the primary host of economic significance. Although the total acreage affected by dwarf bunt is small relative to total wheat production worldwide, the disease has assumed attention disproportionate to its economic ...

Drug target identification through systems biology

Drug Discovery Today: Technologies, 2015
To rationalise drug target selection, we should understand the role of putative targets in biological pathways quantitatively. We review here how experimental and computational network-based approaches can aid more rational drug target selection and illustrate this with results obtained for microbes and for cancer.

Mitochondrial Biology and the Identification of Biomarkers of Huntington’s Disease

Neurodegenerative Disease Management, 2020
Apart from finding novel compounds for treating Huntington's disease (HD) an important challenge at present consists in finding reliable read-outs or biomarkers that reflect key biological processes involved in HD pathogenesis. The core elements of HD biology, for example, HTT RNA levels or protein species can serve as biomarker, as could measures from
