Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Pediatric, Adolescent, and Young Adult Patients With Osteosarcoma: Local Control Outcomes With Dosimetric Analysis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Osteosarcoma is a radioresistant tumor that may benefit from stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for locoregional control in metastatic/recurrent disease. We report institutional practice patterns, outcomes, toxicity, and failures in osteosarcoma patients treated with SBRT.

Whole-exome sequencing revealed a novel heterozygous variant of NF1 in a Vietnamese family with neurofibromatosis type I

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Medical Human Genetics
Background Neurofibromatosis type I (NF1) is one of the most common autosomal dominant disorders caused by mutations in the NF1 gene. Pathogenic variants in this gene induce a wide range of phenotypes, including dermal neurofibromas along nerves ...

Machine Learning for Integrating Data in Biology and Medicine: Principles, Practice, and Opportunities

open access: yes, 2018
New technologies have enabled the investigation of biology and human health at an unprecedented scale and in multiple dimensions. These dimensions include a myriad of properties describing genome, epigenome, transcriptome, microbiome, phenotype, and ...

A new type of identification problems: optimizing the fractional order in a nonlocal evolution equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper, we consider a rather general linear evolution equation of fractional type, namely a diffusion type problem in which the diffusion operator is the $s$th power of a positive definite operator having a discrete spectrum in $\R^+$.

Prognostic Impact of Treatment Modalities, Including Targeted Compartmental Radio‐Immunotherapy, in a Cohort of Neuroblastoma Patients With CNS Metastases at Relapse

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Neuroblastoma (NB) with central nervous system (CNS) metastases is rare at diagnosis, but occurs more often during relapse/progression. Patients with CNS metastases face a dismal prognosis, with no standardized curative treatment available.

Efficient Sequencing, Assembly, and Annotation of Human KIR Haplotypes

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
The homology, recombination, variation, and repetitive elements in the natural killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) region has made full haplotype DNA interpretation impossible in a high-throughput workflow.

Distribution, identification and biology of freshwater fishes in south-western Australia [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
A total of 410 sites in the major watersheds in the south-western corner of Australia, bounded by Bunbury in the north-west and just east of Albany in the south-east, were sampled for fish.

Sampling Local Fungal Diversity in an Undergraduate Laboratory using DNA Barcoding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Traditional methods for fungal species identification require diagnostic morphological characters and are often limited by the availability of fresh fruiting bodies and local identification resources.

Identification of longevity genes with systems biology approaches

open access: yesAdvances and Applications in Bioinformatics and Chemistry, 2009
Identification of genes involved in the aging process is critical for understanding the mechanisms of age-dependent diseases such as cancer and diabetes. Measuring the mutant gene lifespan, each missing one gene, is traditionally employed to identify longevity genes.

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.
