Distribution and Moments of the Idle Period and Interarrival Time in the G/M/1 Queueing System

open access: yesIEEE Access
The Idle period is relevant in a wide variety of systems and has been extensively studied in the literature. This paper derives the distribution and moments of the idle period for different interrarrival time distributions in the G/M/1 queueing system ...

“It's Not Deterministic and It Will Never Be Deterministic”: A Qualitative Study on Stakeholder Perspectives of Polygenic Risk Score Testing for Post‐Traumatic Stress Disorder

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) causes significant mental and physical distress, yet only a small subset of individuals exposed to trauma develop the disorder. Scientists and clinicians are still unable to predict who will get the disorder or how it will manifest.

National and International Monitoring of Student Literacy and Numeracy Attainment: The Case for Rigorous Macro and Micro Analysis

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In her 2024 paper Are Australian students' academic skills declining? Interrogating 25 years of national and international standardised assessment data, Larsen compiled an impressive summary of major international (PISA, PIRLS and TIMSS) and national (NAPLAN) standardised assessments pertaining to literacy and numeracy.

Chinese STEM College Students’ AI-Mediated Informal Digital Learning of English: A Hybrid SEM-PNA Approach to the Hedonic-Motivation System Adoption Model

open access: yesJournal of Intelligence
English proficiency is vital for non-native speakers’ career development, yet classroom instruction alone cannot meet practical demands, making informal digital learning of English (IDLE) increasingly important.

A Fixed‐Charge Interphase Synchronizes Ion Transport to Suppress Space‐Charge‐Driven Inefficiency Under Nanoliter Confinement

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Electrochemical energy storage breaks down under extreme miniaturization, where interfaces and space‐charge dominate device behavior. This work introduces a fixed‐charge selective interphase (FCSI) integrated into a twin‐tube micro‐Swiss‐roll architecture.

Exploring the nexus of informal digital learning of English and online self-regulated learning in EFL university contexts: Longitudinal insights

open access: yesComputers in Human Behavior Reports
Recent findings have demonstrated that informal digital learning of English (IDLE) has a positive impact on the emotional and cognitive aspects of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners from cross-sectional perspectives.

Synergistic Effect on Enhanced Oil Recovery in High Salinity Carbonate Reservoirs Using a Novel PEI‐Functionalized Carbon Nanotube Nanocomposite

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Enhancing oil recovery (EOR) in mature reservoirs is hindered by high interfacial tension (IFT) and oil‐wet rock formations, especially under harsh, high‐salinity conditions. This study aims to overcome these limitations by synthesizing a novel carbon nanotube nanocomposite covalently grafted with polyethylenimine and non‐covalently ...

Microstructural Considerations on the Magnetostriction Enhancement in Dy Doped Fe81Al19 Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
Dy additions induce significant microstructural modifications in Fe–Al alloys, evolving from Dy‐rich agglomerates to columnar grains that promote preferential orientation, particularly along the (200) plane. These changes reduce microstrains and modify crystallite shape, leading to enhanced magnetostriction.

Origin, evolution and biogeographic dynamics of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) in Southwestern Europe

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The Pleistocene is a key period for understanding the evolutionary history and palaeobiogeography of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). The species was first documented in southeastern Iberia at the beginning of the Middle Pleistocene and appears to have rapidly spread throughout Southwestern Europe, where it was found in numerous ...

T. rex cognition was T. rex‐like—A critical outlook on diverging views of the neurocognitive evolution in dinosaurs

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract A recent debate has emerged between Caspar et al. (2024) and Herculano‐Houzel (2023) on inferring extinct dinosaur cognition by estimating brain neuron counts. While thought‐provoking, the discussion largely overlooks the function of cognition, as well as partly neglects the difficulties involved in estimating neuron numbers, which according ...
