IDE Gene Polymorphism Influences on BPSD in Mild Dementia of Alzheimer's Type [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Gerontology and Geriatrics Research, 2008
Insulin degrading enzyme (IDE) degrades amyloid (A), which may inhibit the accumulation of A in a brain affected with dementia of Alzheimer's type (DAT). A decrease in the activity of IDE results in changes in glucose utilization in the brain, which could affect the cognitive and psychiatric symptoms of DAT.

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Asterias: a parallelized web-based suite for the analysis of expression and aCGH data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Asterias (\url{http://www.asterias.info}) is an integrated collection of freely-accessible web tools for the analysis of gene expression and aCGH data. Most of the tools use parallel computing (via MPI).

Uniformly curated signaling pathways reveal tissue-specific cross-talks and support drug target discovery

open access: yes, 2010
Motivation: Signaling pathways control a large variety of cellular processes. However, currently, even within the same database signaling pathways are often curated at different levels of detail.

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Organellar carbon metabolism is co-ordinated with distinct developmental phases of secondary xylem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Subcellular compartmentation of plant biosynthetic pathways in the mitochondria and plastids requires coordinated regulation of nuclear encoded genes, and the role of these genes has been largely ignored by wood researchers. In this study, we constructed

Mucopolysaccharidosis Type-II with Pathognomonic Skin Appearance: A Case with Pebbling Sign

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Research, 2021
Mucopolysaccharidosis type-II (MPS-II) is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder. Here, we report an 8-year-old boy with pebbling sign in the scapular region, coarse facies, claw hand, diastolic murmur, and hepatomegaly.

BioMart Gene ID Converter

open access: yes, 2011
BioMart recently got a facelift. I'm not sure if this was always available in the old BioMart, but there's now a link to a gene ID converter that worked pretty well for me for converting S. cerevisiae gene IDs to standard gene names. It looks like the tool will convert nearly any ID you could imagine.

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.
