Human Cytomegalovirus IE1 Impairs Neuronal Migration by Downregulating Connexin 43
Journal of Virology, 2023Congenital CMV (cCMV) infection causes neurological sequelae in newborns. Recent studies of cCMV pathogenesis in animal models reveal ventriculomegaly and cortical atrophy associated with impaired neural progenitor cell (NPC) proliferation and migration.

Functional and structural characterisation of AgMNPV ie1
Virus Genes, 2007We have located and cloned the Anticarsia gemmatalis multicapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus isolate 2D (AgMNPV-2D) genomic DNA fragment containing the immediate early 1 ORF and its flanking regions. Computer assisted analysis of the complete ie1 locus nucleotide sequence information was used to locate regulatory signals in the upstream region and conserved ...

An immediate-early gene product of baculovirus, IE1, is essential for viral gene expression and for viral DNA replication. It has been demonstrated for Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus (AcNPV) that the C-terminal region of IE1 is required for dimerization.

The IE1 and IE2 proteins of human cytomegalovirus transactivate various viral and cellular promoters in a synergistic manner, but the mechanism of their action has not been well elucidated. Here we have examined the IE1-IE2 synergy by artificial recruitment of either Sp1 or TBP to the promoter.

The detection of CMV pp65 and IE1 in glioblastoma multiforme
Journal of Neuro-Oncology, 2010Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a highly lethal brain tumor affecting children and adults, with the majority of affected individuals dying from their disease by 2 years following diagnosis. Other groups have reported the association of cytomegalovirus (CMV) with GBM, and we sought to confirm these findings in a large series of patients with primary ...

Analysis of human herpesvirus‐6 IE1 sequence variation in clinical samples
Journal of Medical Virology, 2003AbstractHerpesvirus immediate early (IE) proteins are known to play key roles in establishing productive infections, regulating reactivation from latency, and creating a cellular environment favourable to viral replication. Human herpesvirus‐6 (HHV‐6) IE genes have not been studied as intensively as their homologues in the prototype betaherpesvirus ...

The Human Cytomegalovirus IE1 Protein: Past and Present Developments
Future Virology, 2014ABSTRACT: Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), a member of the β-herpesvirus subfamily, is an important pathogen that infects the majority of the human population. The evolutionary success of HCMV largely depends on its ability to evade host defense systems and establish a lifelong persistence after primary infection.

Characteristics of the transactivator gene ie1 of Spodoptera exigua multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus
Archives of Virology, 2000The genomic position and nucleotide sequence of the immediate early gene ie1 of Spodoptera exigua multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (SeMNPV) were determined. The SeMNPV ie1 gene had the potential to encode a protein of 714 amino acids with a predicted molecular mass of 82.0 kDa, representing the largest baculovirus IE1 known to date.

Tandem repetition of baculovirus ie1 promoter results in upregulation of transcription
Archives of Virology, 2001In order to improve a virus-independent gene expression system in insect cells, the effect of the repetition of the promoter sequence of a baculovirus immediate early gene, BmNPV ie1, on the gene expression activity was examined. Tandem repetition of ie1 promoter resulted in about a 4-fold increase of the reporter gene expression activity.

The Human CMV IE1 Protein: An Offender of PML Nuclear Bodies
2017PML nuclear bodies (PML-NBs) are SUMOylation-dependent, highly complex protein assemblies that accumulate in the interchromosomal territories of the cell nucleus. Research of the last two decades revealed that many viruses have evolved effector proteins that modify PML-NBs.
