Acute effects of lactate infusion on metabolism, AD biomarkers, and cognition: The LEAN study

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 21, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract BACKGROUND Impaired cerebral glucose metabolism is a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Lactate is an alternative brain fuel; however, whole‐body lactate metabolism has not been measured in AD. METHODS The Lactate for Energy and Neurocognition Trial (NCT05207397) was a single‐arm trial that enrolled 24 cognitively healthy (CH) older adults ...

The Human Cytomegalovirus Major Immediate-Early Proteins as Antagonists of Intrinsic and Innate Antiviral Host Responses

open access: yesViruses, 2009
The major immediate-early (IE) gene of human cytomegalovirus (CMV) is believed to have a decisive role in acute infection and its activity is an important indicator of viral reactivation from latency.

Human Cytomegalovirus IE1 Protein Disrupts Interleukin-6 Signaling by Sequestering STAT3 in the Nucleus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2013
ABSTRACTIn the canonical STAT3 signaling pathway, binding of agonist to receptors activates Janus kinases that phosphorylate cytoplasmic STAT3 at tyrosine 705 (Y705). Phosphorylated STAT3 dimers accumulate in the nucleus and drive the expression of genes involved in inflammation, angiogenesis, invasion, and proliferation.

Tightly regulated expression of Autographa californica multicapsid nucleopolyhedrovirus immediate early genes emerges from their interactions and possible collective behaviors. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
To infect their hosts, DNA viruses must successfully initiate the expression of viral genes that control subsequent viral gene expression and manipulate the host environment.

The Role of Internship Programs in Fostering School‐to‐Work Transitions in Secondary Schools: Paths for Transversal Skills and Orientation (PCTOs)

open access: yesJournal of Adolescence, Volume 97, Issue 7, Page 1738-1748, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction The school‐to‐work transition (STWT) represents the initial significant career milestone in young people's lives. In Italy, the Paths for Transversal Skills and Orientation (PCTOs) were introduced in upper secondary schools as an educational tool to support STWT.

Leading From Higher Headquarters

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Psychology, Volume 66, Issue 5, Page 779-791, October 2025.
ABSTRACT This study explores the relationship between self‐efficacy, task acceptance, and goal setting among senior leaders operating in higher headquarters, particularly within the context of hybrid warfare. The aim is to describe the factors that influence the decision‐making (DM) performance of police and military leaders involved in collaborative ...

Baculovirus gp64 gene expression: analysis of sequences modulating early transcription and transactivation by IE1 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 1991
Expression of the baculovirus major envelope glycoprotein gene (gp64) is regulated by transcription from both early and late promoters. To characterize the early promoter and identify sequences involved in the regulation of gp64 early transcription, promoter-reporter gene fusions were generated from the Orygia pseudotsugata nuclear polyhedrosis virus ...

Current Progress in Targeting Human Cytomegalovirus Infection

open access: yesiLABMED, Volume 3, Issue 3, Page 303-311, September 2025.
This review highlights recent advances in the mechanisms by which human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) maintains its genome in infected cells, as well as the cellular factors and viral antigens that modulate viral reactivation, which reveal potential targets for addressing HCMV infection.
