On Definition of a Formal Model for IEC 61499 Function Blocks [PDF]

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Embedded Systems, 2008
Formal model of IEC 61499 syntax and its unambiguous execution semantics are important for adoption of this international standard in industry. This paper proposes some elements of such a model. Elements of IEC 61499 architecture are defined in a formal way following set theory notation.

On-board Visualisation of Machining Tool Paths Generated by Function Blocks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A solution for visualising the tool path generated by a function block system is introduced in this research. It facilitates the real-time monitoring of the behaviour of function blocks running on-board a CNC controller, and provides interactivity ...

Requirements for a dynamic interface model of IEC 61499 Function Blocks [PDF]

open access: yes2020 25th IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA), 2020
Component-based software engineering has emerged as a principle of software design to facilitate reuse and improve the software quality. This principle is supported by the domain-specific language IEC 61499, where Function Blocks are fully encapsulated software components.

Complexity of Structured Text in IEC 61499 Function Blocks: A Survey.

open access: yes2023 IEEE 28th International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA), 2023
The rising complexity of modern production systems raises the need for evaluating the code quality also in control software engineering. Complexity metrics can help identifying code that is difficult to maintain and may benefit from a refactoring. Although complexity metrics have already been adapted to the domain-specific languages (DSLs) used for ...
