Reengineering of IEC 61131 into IEC 61499 Function Blocks
2010 8th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics, 2010In order for industrial automation manufacturers to remain competitive, they must utilise modern design approaches. Existing approaches using IEC 61131 languages are not object oriented and are difficult to reconfigure for other applications. IEC 61499 is an open standard aimed at replacing IEC 61131, adding modern design features and hardware ...

A hierarchical and concurrent approach for IEC 61499 function blocks
2009 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation, 2009The IEC 61499 function block standard proposes a new specification language for describing distributed industrial control systems. The standard specifies the use of an execution control chart (ECC) for state control, with algorithm calls for data handling.

A Synchronous Approach for IEC 61499 Function Block Implementation
IEEE Transactions on Computers, 2009IEC 61499 has been endorsed as the standard for modeling and implementing distributed industrial process measurement and control systems. The standard prescribes the use of function blocks for designing systems in a component-oriented approach. The execution model of a basic function block and the manner for event/data connections between blocks are ...

Refactoring of IEC 61499 function block application — A case study
2018 IEEE Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems (ICPS), 2018Industrial Cyber-Physical System applications, especially distributed ones are designed and implemented in many standard approaches, one of them being IEC 61499 distributed programming standard. This article presents a case study of applying couple of refactoring methods and techniques in order to improve readability, maintainability, reuse-ability and

Efficient implementation of IEC 61499 function blocks
2009 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2009Current trends in the manufacturing sector have greatly increased the need for portability and reusability in software systems for industrial control and automation. The IEC 61499 standard has emerged out of this need for a platform-independent way to develop industrial control systems.

Remote web-based execution of IEC 61499 function blocks
Proceedings of the 2014 6th International Conference on Electronics, Computers and Artificial Intelligence (ECAI), 2014This work describes a system based on a web application that allows the remote execution of IEC 61499 function blocks using the input parameters entered by a user in the web interface. The results obtained from executing the function block are sent to the field device using simple communication interfaces.

Reconfigurable Logic Control Using IEC 61499 Function Blocks
2006 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation, 2006This paper presents one approach to design logic control systems using event-condition-action (ECA) rules implemented with IEC 61499 function blocks (FBs). ECA rules have been used extensively to specify the behavior of active database and expert systems and are recognized as a highly reconfigurable tool to design reactive behavior. Recent results have

Design Alternatives in the IEC 61499 Function Block Model
2006 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation, 2006The International Electro-technical Commission through the 61499 standard establishes the basic infrastructure towards an open market in the control and automation domain. This standard can be considered as the first step towards the development of the next generation agile manufacturing systems where distribution, interoperability and re-configuration
