Using EtherNet/IP with IEC 61499 Communication Function Blocks
2011The purpose of this paper is to present and discuss on how an industrial Ethernet protocol, namely EtherNet/IP, can be integrated to IEC 61499 communication function blocks. This conglomerate enables a robust communication infrastructure for distributed control systems as well as a certain interface to existing facilities in terms of retrofitting.

Speculative computation in IEC 61499 function blocks execution — Modeling and simulation
2016 IEEE 14th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN), 2016In this paper a speculative computation method for IEC 61499 function block (FB) systems is proposed to increase the level of parallelism when executing the FB system and thus to increase system's performance and to reduce response time on input events.

Formal Model for IEC 61499 Function Blocks
2014The IEC 61499 standard prescribes the use of function blocks for designing systems in a component-oriented approach. However, various run-time environments for IEC 61499 have emerged over time, which do not always exhibit consistent behaviour with each other.

IEC 61499 execution model based on life cycle of function blocks
2010 IEEE 15th Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2010), 2010Current challenges of the manufacturing industry are related to the Agile Manufacturing paradigm. IEC 61499 standard has been adopted as the standard for flexible and reconfigurable control systems by this paradigm. Due to different reasons, this standard has not been adopted by industry yet. For example, as a result of some ambiguities in the standard

Implementation of full synchronous composition using IEC 61499 function blocks
IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering, 2005., 2005One reason that the development of distributed control system is hard is that the communication primitives are at a low abstraction level. To put less burden on the developer it would be an advantage to have support for high-level communication primitives. One such primitive is the full synchronous composition (FSC) operator.

Evolutionary approach to coverage testing of IEC 61499 function block applications
2015 IEEE 13th International Conference on Industrial Informatics (INDIN), 2015The paper addresses the problem of coverage testing of industrial automation software represented in the IEC 61499 standard, one of the recent standards for distributed control system design. Contrary to model-based testing (MBT), the paper focuses on implementation coverage, not model coverage. An approach based on evolutionary algorithms is presented

Adding Function Blocks of IEC 61499 Semantic Description to Automation Objects
2006 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation, 2006Continuous market changes has leading to a new manufacturing paradigms where the common denominator is the rapid changeover of hardware components for the adjustment of production capacity and functionality. Hardware components for final solutions have been receiving more attention than software components for control. Function blocks from the standard

IEC 61499 function block implementation of Intelligent Mechatronic Component
2010 8th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics, 2010This paper presents a new approach of implementing Intelligent Mechatronic Component (IMC) using the IEC 61499 Function Block standard. In particular, this paper tries to address two issues during the engineering process of IMCs: a systematic approach of developing and organizing IMC elements and a seamless and scalable way supporting IMC composition ...

Implementation model alternatives for IEC 61499 Function Block networks
2008 6th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics, 2008The function block (FB) is proposed by IEC 61499 as the basic construct for the development of reusable, interoperable, distributed control applications. The FB design-level construct is clearly described by the standard so various prototype development environments have been developed during last years.

Code generator for IEC 61499 function block
2010The IEC 61499 function block is an open standard for distributed control and automation. However, work related to using IEC 61499 as code generator for various programming languages is still lacking. In this dissertation, a methodology for code generation based on XML (extensible Markup Language) and EBNF (Extended Backus-Naur Form) is discussed. Along
