Interactive global illumination on the CPU [PDF]

open access: yes
Computing realistic physically-based global illumination in real-time remains one of the major goals in the fields of rendering and visualisation; one that has not yet been achieved due to its inherent computational complexity.

Specular-based illumination estimation using blind signal separation techniques

open access: yes, 2012
Illumination estimation is important in many approaches to colour constancy, where object colour is measured without the effect of the spectral distribution of the illumination.

Enhanced Ferroelectric Phase Formation via Local Structure Modification in the Pre‐Crystalline State of Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hafnium zirconium oxide thin films are grown using plasma‐enhanced atomic layer deposition with the addition of an atomic layer annealing (ALA) step. ALA leads to a change in the short‐range structure of the deposit and encourages formation of the ferroelectric Pca21 phase. The result is wake‐up‐free performance with films exposed to ALA.

Time Estimation in Humans: Effects of Ambient Illumination and Sex

open access: yes, 1981
7 male and 7 female college students made estimations of 15-sec. intervals in conditions of dark, low and high ambient illumination. Analysis of variance showed significant effects of illumination and illumination by sex.

Photo‐Degradable Polyester Networks and Multi‐Photon Printed Objects Based on Cyclic Ketene Acetals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The current work introduces a photoreversible polyester network derived from radical ring‐opening polymerization of cyclic ketene acetals. It combines photoreversible cross‐linking with initiator‐free multi‐photon printing. Reversible network formation, tunable mechanical properties, and selective degradation highlight its potential as a versatile ...

Tomas Akenine-Möller and Wolfgang Heidrich (Editors) Abstract Sparse Lumigraph Relighting by Illumination and

open access: yes, 2008
We present a novel relighting approach that does not assume that illumination is known or controllable. Instead, we estimate the illumination and texture from given multi-view images captured under a single illumination setting, given object shape.

Laboratory implementation of edge illumination X-ray phase-contrast imaging with energy-resolved detectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Edge illumination (EI) X-ray phase-contrast imaging (XPCI) has potential for applications in different fields of research, including materials science, non-destructive industrial testing, small-animal imaging, and medical imaging.

Oligoethylene Glycol Side‐Chain Engineering of Y6‐Derived Nonfullerene Acceptors for Thermally Induced Spontaneous Pseudo‐Planar Heterojunction Organic Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
OEG‐functionalized Y6‐derived acceptors induce thermally driven vertical phase separation, enabling pseudo‐planar heterojunction organic photodetectors. The resulting PM6:YTEG‐4F and PM6:YTEG‐4Cl organic photodetectors suppress dark current density by approximately 260‐fold and 210‐fold, respectively, while maintaining efficient photoresponse ...

CHROM-Y: Illumination-Adaptive Robust Remote Photoplethysmography Through 2D Chrominance–Luminance Fusion and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesSignals
Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) enables non-contact heart rate estimation but remains highly sensitive to illumination variation and dataset-dependent factors.
