Extended Corrected-Moments Illumination Estimation

open access: yesElectronic Imaging, 2016
A remarkably simple color constancy method was recently developed, based in essence on the Gray-Edge method, i.e., the assumption that the mean of color-gradients in a scene (or colors themselves, in a Gray-World setting) are close to being achromatic.

On Using Gait Biometrics to Enhance Face Pose Estimation

open access: yes
Many face biometrics systems use controlled environments where subjects are viewed directly facing the camera. This is less likely to occur in surveillance environments, so a process is required to handle the pose variation of the human head, change in ...

Multiple-cue illumination estimation in textured scenes

open access: yes, 2003
In this paper, we present a method that integrates cues from shading, shadow and specular reflections for estimating directional illumination in a textured scene.

From Bulk to Colloidal Nanocrystals: Top‐Down Synthesis of Highly Luminescent Cs2ZrCl6:Te4+ Double Perovskite Nanocrystals for X‐Ray Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Top‐down ultrasonication produces highly emissive Cs2ZrCl6:Te4+ nanocrystals (NCs) with a PLQY of 65%, which is higher compared to that of the NCs synthesized by typical bottom‐up hot‐injection synthesis. The colloidal Cs2ZrCl6:Te4+ NCs have been found to be potential candidates for x‐ray scintillation imaging.

Surface Reflectance Estimation and Natural Illumination Statistics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Humans recognize optical reflectance properties of surfaces such as metal, plastic, or paper from a single image without knowledge of illumination. We develop a machine vision system to perform similar recognition tasks automatically.

Heart rate from face videos under realistic conditions for advanced driver monitoring

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2017
The role of physiological signals has a large impact on driver monitoring systems, since it tells something about the human state. This work addresses the recursive probabilistic inference problem in time-varying linear dynamic systems to incorporate ...

Forward‐Biased Perovskite Photodiodes for In‐Sensor Optical Change Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A forward‐biased perovskite photodiode is introduced as an in‐sensor analog preprocessing unit that uses current balancing between photocurrent and injection current to generate optical changes relative to programmable optical reference levels. The device directly converts reference‐relative optical changes into bipolar current signals, enabling sensor‐

As-projective-as-possible bias correction for illumination estimation algorithms

open access: yes, 2019
Illumination estimation is the key routine in a camera’s onboard auto-white-balance (AWB) function. Illumination estimation algorithms estimate the color of the scene’s illumination from an image in the form of an R, G, B vector in the sensor’s raw-RGB ...

Blue Upconversion Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes Achieving 1000 cd m−2 With an Operating Voltage of 2.7 V by Suppressing Interfacial Exciton Quenching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A triplet‐blocking layer controls triplet exciton dynamics in blue upconversion OLEDs. The layer keeps charge transfer (CT)‐generated triplet excitons inside the triplet‐triplet annihilation (TTA) host, suppresses anode‐side interfacial quenching, and increases the steady‐state triplet population.

Charge‐Polarized Ni─S4 Single‐Atom Sites Drive Selective Photoreforming of Poly(lactic acid) to Lactate and Hydrogen

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Atomically dispersed Ni–S4 sites on CdS nanorods induce interfacial charge polarization, directing photogenerated electrons to H2 evolution and holes to selective ester‐bond cleavage of poly(lactic acid). Without sacrificial reagents, this charge‐coupled system produces lactate while suppressing overoxidation, achieving an H2 evolution rate of 41.74 ...
